Rangers duo surely set for unfavourable January exit after what Danny Rohl did vs Aberdeen

Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-0 at Ibrox on Tuesday to boost their title credentials under Danny Rohl.

Emmanuel Fernandez’s powerful header from Connor Barron’s corner gave the Bears the lead, before the Scottish midfielder whipped in another brilliant cross for Nico Raskin to head home.

The result means Rangers move above rivals Celtic into second place in the Scottish Premiership table, and they now trail league leaders Hearts by just three points.

Rangers’ win over Aberdeen was a fantastic night on all counts for Rohl, but Findlay Curtis and Lyall Cameron won’t be pleased after being left out of the matchday squad.

A January loan move looks to be the most likely option for Cameron, having only started two of Rangers’ 21 Scottish Premiership games.

As for Curtis, there are also rumours of a loan exit, and neither player was named in Rohl’s 20-man squad to face the Dons.

Rangers fans have been critical of the treatment of both players, feeling that they have more to give to the team than some of the underwhelming summer signings who are continuously given chances.

Cameron’s 2024-25 Scottish Premiership stats for Dundee

Cameron has played 10 matches in a Rangers shirt, with his only goal coming in the 2-1 defeat to Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League qualifiers on 12 August.

Curtis has three goals in all competitions this season, and the 19-year-old is in desperate need of game time to speed up his development.

When both players have featured, they haven’t looked out of their depth, but the writing is now on the wall for a loan move elsewhere in the coming weeks.

Cameron has the potential to be a top player for Rangers, but he needs to go out on loan to a team that is competitive and fighting for promotion or silverware.

Curtis is particularly in need of first-team minutes, and there’s no doubt that he could tear up several leagues across Europe with his confidence on the ball.

What Danny Rohl said about Curtis and Cameron after the Aberdeen win

Rohl has obviously been hired to win games, but supporters will be concerned at the lack of young Scottish talent in the team.

In teams of the past, there was always a Scottish presence, but Cameron has certainly struggled to make a positive impression on the German head coach.

Curtis’ bright start to the season has also been seemingly ignored despite scoring several key goals under Russell Martin.

After the win over Aberdeen, Rohl addressed the speculation over what the future may hold for both players this season.

He said: “Especially with young players, it’s about getting minutes and developing. We have to make good decisions, and it makes no sense to keep them here if they don’t have minutes.”

Given Rohl’s words and his actions on Tuesday night, it seems clear that both players will leave on loan before the transfer window deadline on 2 February.
