Rangers lead Celtic in race for Silas Andersen signing, approach made and talks underway for blockbuster move
Rangers are reportedly in pole position to sign BK Hacken midfielder Silas Andersen this winter.
Danny Rohl has managed to see a huge uplift in Rangers’ fortunes after taking charge at Ibrox in October, and now has the Govan giants firmly back in the Scottish Premiership title race.
Rangers beat Celtic 3-1 at Parkhead on Saturday, leading to Wilfried Nancy being dismissed and Martin O’Neill being re-hired on an interim basis by the Hoops for the second time this season.
And it looks as though the Gers are set to beat their bitter Old Firm rivals off the pitch this month, as well.
Rangers identify Silas Andersen as top January target
According to Danish website Bold, Rangers are leading the race to sign defensive midfielder Andersen after making an initial approach to sign him from Hacken.
It is understood that talks are now underway between the Scottish and the Swedish clubs.
Nottingham Forest and FC Copenhagen both have previously held an interest in the Denmark Under-21 international, while Bold claims that Celtic are now “lurking in the wings”.

However, the Light Blues have supposedly made Andersen a “top target” for the winter transfer window and are currently beating their rivals to his signature.
Everything Rangers fans need to know about Hacken midfielder Andersen
BK Hacken signed Andersen from Dutch side Utrecht in January 2025 after he agreed a four-year contract with the Swedish club.
He was one of the best players in the Swedish Allsvenskan in the 2025 season, with stats by Sofascore showing that only four players finished the campaign with a higher average rating than him.
| Stat | Andersen’s league figures |
| Touches | 91.5 per game |
| Big chances created | 3 |
| Key passes | 1.0 per game |
| Accurate passes | 61.5 per game (87%) |
| Interceptions | 1.7 per game |
| Tackles | 3.2 per game |
| Ball recoveries | 7.0 per game |
Based on his stats, Andersen seems like a deep-lying playmaker who’s just as good off the ball as he is on it.
While he’d have no doubt liked to have assisted more goals last year for Hacken, he made a key pass every single game, on average.
Silas Andersen factfile:
- Date of birth: 13 June 2004 (age 21)
- Country: Denmark
- Position: Midfielder
- Former clubs: Sundby BK, FC Copenhagen, Inter Milan, FC Utrecht
- International career: Represented every Denmark age group from U16 to U21
With Nicolas Raskin’s future at Ibrox in question, it would not be a shock to see Rangers looking at Andersen as a potential replacement for the in-demand Belgium international.
However, while players from the Swedish leagues aren’t usually expensive, the heightened interest in Andersen – plus the fact he still has three years left on his contract – could see Hacken bump up the price.
Either way, it’s unlikely to be as much what someone would pay for Raskin, meaning that this is a deal that could help Rangers not only on the pitch, but also financially.
