Oscar Cortes trains alone as final details of Rangers transfer agreement sorted
Oscar Cortes could finally be set to leave Rangers for good.
Cortes is currently on loan in Spain with Sporting Gijon, but that deal looks set to be terminated ahead of a switch to Argentina in January.
FIFA loopholes allow for Club Atletico Huracan to swoop for another loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy likely included in the agreed deal.
The deal looks as difficult as it sounds, with several details still to be ironed out for Cortes and Rangers.
Where is Oscar Cortes now?
Danny Rohl appears to have no objection to Cortes possibly leaving Ibrox permanently.
The German is building his own squad, and the Colombian winger has never been the right fit in Govan, whether down to his ability or several fitness issues.
Despite that, Cortes is still with Sporting Gijon, as things stand.
Daniel Alonso has shared on X that Cortes is training separately from the main squad, as the final details behind his exit are being agreed upon.
Only then will the door open to Huracan and Argentina.
Who could Rangers sign after Ibrox latest?
Cortes simply didn’t fit at Rangers, and now Rohl has changed to a more central shape with the likes of Mikey Moore playing behind the striker; he has no chance.
Instead, incoming signings at Ibrox will fit that new system.
Emil Bohinen is the first concrete Rangers target, with the Genoa midfielder set for another loan after his spell at Venezia this season.
Either way, Cortes looks likely to be the first out of the door.
Joe Rothwell is another who could leave Ibrox, and it is time to start clearing the deadwood that has collected over the past couple of years.
That would make way for better signings, and hopefully players that can propel Rohl to the most unlikely of Scottish Premiership titles from when he first arrived.
Cortes looks next out of the door. Let’s hope that continues as the January window really kicks off.
