Michael Stewart shares secret knowledge of Rangers move for James Penrice
Michael Stewart may have some intel on Rangers potentially signing AEK Athens defender James Penrice in the winter transfer window.
Darrell Currie, the host of the Scottish Football Social Club, revealed that the former Scotland international has some inside knowledge about the Gers’ possible move for the left-back.
The Ibrox hierarchy have their eyes on Penrice, with the Light Blues looking to bolster their defence, especially the left-hand side, in January.
Danny Rohl has already given Andrew Cavenagh a list of targets, and it will be interesting to see how many players will arrive in G51 before Deadline Day.
Rangers transfer for James Penrice unlikely
Stewart would be surprised to see the Gers sign Penrice from AEK anytime soon.
The ex-midfielder dismissed the chances of the Light Blues getting a deal over the line when asked whether the 27-year-old Scotsman could move to Ibrox.
It looks like the Glaswegian outfit will have to look at other targets if they want to add backup for Jayden Meghoma, the only natural left-back at Rohl’s disposal.
Speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club on 5 January, Stewart said, “I’d be surprised if that happens,” and Currie responded, “I know he’s got some intel. So maybe that says it all.”
While other areas of the pitch could potentially do with more quality, the Brentford loanee’s position should arguably be a priority.
Meghoma will leave Ibrox at the end of the season, so it makes sense to have a successor in place sooner rather than later.
Ibrox hierarchy to quickly swoop for second left-back target in January
Westerlo left-back Tuur Rommens is also on Rohl’s radar, and the Gers will surely turn their attention towards him now that it looks like a deal for Penrice is unlikely.
Rangers will be getting a Belgium Under-21 international in the 22-year-old, who’s been a key player for Issame Charai at Het Kuipje.

Philippe Clement’s former assistant being in charge of Westerlo may give the Light Blues an advantage in their pursuit of Rommens.
Fans in G51 are expecting significant business from the Glaswegian outfit, and Cavenagh won’t want to disappoint them.
