Rangers to accelerate James Penrice deal after what’s seen in 3-1 win vs Celtic

Danny Rohl still has a few headaches at Rangers despite beating Celtic 3-1 in the William Hill Premiership on Saturday.

Rohl got the better of Wilfried Nancy at Parkhead on 3 December, with Youssef Chermiti’s brace and Mikey Moore’s second-half strike securing the three points for the Gers.

Andrew Cavenagh is expected to invest heavily again at Ibrox after a £20million net spend in the summer.

There is clearly a sense among the Light Blues’ hierarchy that the current squad needs strengthening, and AEK Athens defender James Penrice could potentially walk through the doors sooner rather than later.

Danny Rohl to demand Jayden Meghoma replacement at Rangers

Jayden Meghoma was a weak link for the Gers as they won the Old Firm derby coming from a goal behind.

The Brentford loanee is the only natural left-back option for Rohl at Ibrox, and it isn’t surprising to see him rely on the youngster.

While the 19-year-old has had his moments since joining the Light Blues, he was poor against Celtic, failing to win any of his ground and aerial duels, as per Sofascore.

Meghoma didn’t contribute much in the final third either, completing none of his two crosses, recording a passing accuracy of 43 per cent in the opposition half and failing his one dribble attempt.

The left-back was also sloppy with the ball, losing possession 16 times, which summed up his disappointing evening in Parkhead.

Penrice has emerged as a target at Ibrox, with the German manager keeping an eye on the Scottish defender currently playing in Greece.

Westerlo defender Tuur Rommens is also being monitored at Rangers, with the Gers evidently wanting to bolster their defence in the coming days.

The Belgium Under-21 international has been a key player for the Jupiler Pro League outfit, and his situation will be one to watch.

Meghoma’s future at the Glaswegian outfit seems inevitable, with the Englishman’s loan move expiring at the end of the season.

The Light Blues will be right to accelerate a deal for a new left-footed defender in January, and one should walk through the door immediately.
