Hackett Exclusive: Scottish FA to seek Celtic observations after new footage vs Rangers
Rangers secured a huge win over Celtic at Parkhead to fire themselves back into the Scottish Premiership title race on Saturday.
The Hoops led 1-0 at half-time, but Youssef Chermiti grabbed a brace at Celtic Park before Mikey Moore secured the points as the visitors completed a second-half comeback on 3 January.
Danny Rohl’s side have now moved level on points with Celtic in the table, and just six points behind league leaders Hearts.
While there was little controversy on the pitch in the Old Firm, events in the stands have been highlighted after new footage emerged.
Celtic fans fume after Youssef Chermiti goal
Thelo Aasgaard was hooked at half-time by Rohl, with Rangers a goal behind and struggling to get a foothold in the game.
Within 15 minutes of the restart, though, Chermiti had turned the match on its head, smashing home from close range before calmly slotting past Kasper Schmeichel.
After giving Rohl’s side the lead at Parkhead, the former Everton striker ran over to celebrate with the Gers fans in the corner.
However, footage on X seemingly shows a Celtic supporter launching a projectile towards Chermiti and his teammates moments after his second goal.
The object, which looked to be launched from the upper tier, didn’t reach the pitch and instead appeared to hit a Hoops fan in the crowd.
Keith Hackett explains next steps after Celtic vs Rangers controversy
Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett insists that the Scottish FA will approach Celtic for observations as they investigate the incident.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Hackett said: “Just the act of throwing an object at a football match aimed towards a spectator, player, steward or match official could result in a serious injury.
“I do hope that the police are aware of this action and will take all reasonable steps to identify and apprehend the individual.
“The Scottish FA will, I am sure, seek observations from the home club in a game that was well officiated and created few problems.”
