Wilfried Nancy sack verdict shared ahead of Celtic vs Rangers – ‘Unthinkable’
Rangers could push Wilfried Nancy towards the sack at Celtic when the teams meet on Saturday.
Rangers’ arch-rivals were plunged into chaos when Brendan Rodgers resigned in October, and Nancy was eventually appointed as their new permanent manager in early December.
Danny Rohl‘s charges have closed the gap on Nancy‘s side in recent weeks, and could go level on points with them should they secure victory at Parkhead on 3 December.
Rangers are firmly back in the title race, and could take the advantage if they take all three points from the contest.

Could Wilfried Nancy be sacked if Rangers beat Celtic?
The title implications are bad enough for Celtic, but a Rangers win could be the nail in Nancy’s coffin in terms of his managerial reign.
John McGarry claimed on 2 January that it is unlikely that he keeps his job in the long-term if his side tastes defeat in the Old Firm clash.
Writing in the Daily Mail, he said: “Nancy achieved too much in his time in Ohio to blithely dismiss him as a second-rater. He has also come into Celtic mid-season for a reason. With the squad inadequate and the fanbase at war with the board, the circumstances are hardly conducive to overnight success.
| Opposition | Result |
| Hearts (H) | 1-2 (L) |
| Roma (H) | 0-3 (L) |
| St Mirren (N) | 3-1 (L) |
| Dundee United (A) | 2-1 (L) |
| Aberdeen (H) | 3-1 (W) |
| Livingston (A) | 2-4 (W) |
| Motherwell (A) | 2-0 (L) |
“Nonetheless, losing to an average Rangers side at lunchtime is surely unthinkable if he is to stand any chance of lasting the course.”
What has gone wrong for Nancy so far?
As McGarry states, the Frenchman walked into a difficult situation on the other side of Glasgow, in the fallout from Rodgers’ departure.
The squad is not good enough to retain the title, that is the main reason why the Northern Irishman left, with a brutal parting statement for Dermot Desmond, which criticised a lack of recruitment.
The relationship between the fans and the board is at an all-time low, and the results under Nancy so far have not improved things, if anything, they have only made them worse.
The Gers must take advantage and secure a result that puts them right back into contention, condemns the Hoops to further chaos, and puts the former Columbus Crew’s job in further peril than it already is.
Whether it will see Nancy depart, or he will be given more time regardless, remains to be seen, but it would certainly be a big blow so early in his reign and plunge the green half of the city into more madness.
The Light Blues fanbase will be enjoying the fact that their rivals are crumbling, but they must improve themselves to truly relish it.
