Kieran Dowell exit route emerges for Rangers as challenge detailed

Kieran Dowell could finally have an exit route from his Rangers misery.

Dowell has hardly featured for Rangers this season, with six appearances across all competitions, all coming under Russell Martin.

Danny Rohl has not utilised the 28-year-old since taking the reins at Ibrox, and it looks like he will leave in the January window.

Dowell is one of six Rangers stars to be deemed surplus to requirements, and there is already interest in his services from the English Championship.

What Championship club want to sign Rangers outcast Kieran Dowell?

Dowell spent the second half of last season away from Rangers, with League One outfit Birmingham City, and now he could be set to move up a division across the border.

Hull City have been credited with interest in the Gers man, but they have to overcome a challenge to complete his signature.

Hull Daily Mail reporter Baz Cooper claimed on 3 January that the Tigers need to sell players in order to bring others in.

Where did it go wrong for Dowell in Govan?

Dowell arrived at Auchenhowie on a free transfer in 2023 after his contract at Norwich expired, but he never seemed to fit.

He never looked settled in Govan, with injuries and inconsistent performances, ruining any chance he had of becoming a first-team regular.

Dowell never showed the creative spark that was expected when he moved to Govan, and that is ultimately what hampered him.

The Gers cannot afford to keep hold of players that are not going to play under Rohl, so it makes sense if the ex-Everton academy man departs.

The Light Blues fanbase will not blink at the idea of him leaving, which sums up how badly it has gone for him in Scottish football.

A return to English football may suit him better, and allow him to regain his confidence and creativity, while the Bears get him off the books.
