Danny Rohl gets it all wrong on Nicolas Raskin after what Neil McCann spotted in Rangers win vs Celtic

Nicolas Raskin produced a moment of incredible quality as Rangers fought back to secure an impressive 3-1 win over Celtic on Saturday.

After Yang Hyun-Jun put Celtic into a first-half lead, Youssef Chermiti scored twice in nine minutes to turn the game on its head, before Mikey Moore’s low finish ensured the Bears won their first Old Firm derby of the season.

Rangers have been impressive in the Scottish Premiership since Danny Rohl‘s appointment, winning nine out of their 12 matches in the competition.

The result leaves the Bears three points off league leaders Hearts, and supporters will be thrilled with the reaction their side showed to claim the bragging rights at Celtic Park.

Raskin provided the assist for Chermiti’s first goal with a fantastic ball across the face of goal, and Neil McCann believes that he should be deployed further up the pitch more often.

Nicolas Raskin’s attacking brilliance proves he shouldn’t played in defensive midfield

Raskin is linked with a move to Besiktas as speculation continues to emerge surrounding his future in Govan, but his performance levels certainly haven’t dropped.

He was excellent in the second half against Celtic, and evaded multiple challenges before setting up Chermiti in the 50th minute.

Speaking on Sky Sports, McCann urged Rohl to think about playing him further up the pitch.

He said: “People say Raskin wants to be a number six, and his manager has said that. But I think he has so much to offer when he’s bursting into the box like that.

“He’s got strength, but he’s got a wee bit of awareness about his game as well.”

Raskin’s stats for Rangers

He has formed a brilliant partnership with Connor Barron at the heart of the team, and Thelo Aasgaard was the man to start in front of them on Saturday.

However, he was subbed off at half-time, and it’s clear that Rangers are crying out for an effective attacking midfielder.

Raskin registered 16 goal contributions last season, and he showed exactly why he was voted as Rangers’ Player of the Season in 2024-25 with his performance in the Old Firm Derby.

If Raskin stays in Govan for the rest of the season, Rohl has to change where he plays, but he needs to sign a defensive midfielder first.

Jens Hjerto-Dahl transfer has to be a priority – here’s why

Rohl may already be planning to move Raskin further forward, given Rangers’ intense interest in Jens Hjerto-Dahl.

The 20-year-old has emerged as a transfer target at Ibrox, with reports suggesting he could potentially cost around £6million in January.

Playing for Norwegian side Tromso, the imposing midfielder would add some physicality to the team alongside Barron.

More importantly, he would allow for Raskin to play closer to Chermiti, which would greatly benefit their attacking threat.

Rangers’ win over Celtic has sparked optimism into their season, and Rohl has a key weapon in Raskin that is yet to be fully unleashed.
