Chris Sutton can’t get head around what he saw ‘amateur’ player do in Celtic 1-3 Rangers
Chris Sutton was livid as Rangers beat his beloved Celtic 3-1 on Saturday.
Rangers increased the pressure on Hoops boss Wilfried Nancy, who has now lost six of his first eight games in charge.
The hosts were the better side in the first half, but the Ibrox outfit came back fighting and ultimately overcame their bitter rivals in the Scottish Premiership clash on 3 January.
There was one particular player who took the brunt of his criticism in the Parkhead contest.
Sutton loses his mind after Chermiti completes Rangers turnaround vs Celtic
Chermiti has been much maligned since joining Rangers, but he was the main man as they produced a spectacular comeback from a goal down, scoring two goals.
Sutton could not believe what he was witnessing as Auston Trusty left the Gers man to just run into the box and finish past Kasper Schmeichel.
Speaking on Sky Sports (13:50 pm), he was clearly dismayed, saying: “It’s brilliant from Chermiti, the finish, but Auston Trusty, What on earth is he thinking?
“I don’t know why he doesn’t engage, where is the danger, you cannot let the opposing centre-forward run in on goal and get a free shot off.
“Amateur hour from Auston Trusty.”
Rangers route to title contention examined
Sutton’s anger will be made even sweeter for Gers supporters by the fact that they are right back in the title picture after the result.
Chermiti‘s double and Mikey Moore’s third mean that the Light Blues are level on points with their Glasgow rivals, and perhaps more importantly, on the same goal difference.
Danny Rohl’s side are now six points off leaders Hearts, after they beat Livingston later in the afternoon, following the Gers’ victory.
That is a much better position than they were in just a few weeks ago, and Rohl will be confident that his side can bridge the gap to Derek McInnes’ side in the coming weeks.
The Jambos have dropped points in five of their last nine matches, so the Bears have a route back in, if they slip up anymore as the season goes on.
Rohl must ensure that they take it, and increase the misery on Sutton and the green half of the city after a brilliant result.
If they do, and they end up winning the league, they will look back to this game as a pivotal moment in their charge.
