Rangers learn what’s now required as Ibrox return still on for Josh Windass
Josh Windass’ move to Ibrox is still on the cards, but Rangers know there is plenty of work to do if a deal is to be struck with Wrexham.
The 31-year-old, who spent two years in Govan between 2016 and 2018, joined Wrexham on a free transfer in the summer.
Windass has gathered interest from Rangers, and there has been talk of an initial loan bid having been rejected by the Welsh club.
Windass worked with Danny Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday and scored a total of 20 goals across the German head coach’s two-year spell with the Owls.
Fans are crying out for a consistent goalscorer at Ibrox, and if the Bears want to seal his signature, they’ll have to sell some players to balance out the wage budget.
Rangers refuse to give up on Josh Windass deal
Since joining the Welsh outfit, Windass has scored seven Championship goals and registered three assists.
Rangers are in desperate need of firepower up front, and although he is an attacking midfielder by trade, he could be the answer to their attacking woes.
The Scottish Daily Mail reported on Friday that the Bears are still interested in re-signing the forward despite Wrexham’s reluctance to let him go.
The Welsh side has no intention of allowing the 31-year-old attacking midfielder to leave on a temporary deal unless they are also paid a loan fee.
For any permanent move to come to fruition, Rangers would first of all have to reduce their current wage bill in order to get anywhere near the money Windass is on with the English Championship outfit.
With Danilo potentially leaving Rangers, this could could free up some money on the wage bill that could allow the Light Blues to sign Windass.

Josh Windass will bring exactly what Rangers are missing
The easy answer to this is goals, and while he will prove to be prolific, his mentality is something that is far more important.
Rangers have been criticised for a lack of leadership multiple times this season, and the young players that were signed in the summer have failed to stamp their authority on the team.
As a former Rangers player, Windass knows exactly what it takes to play for this club, and he’ll face no problems when re-adapting to life in G51.
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2016-17 | 27 | 1 | 5 |
| 2017-18 | 41 | 18 | 6 |
| 2018-19 | 5 | 0 | 0 |
Having particularly impressed in 2017-18, he has already shown that he is capable of being an effective presence in the final third.
It’s now up to Rangers to balance their books effectively if they want to secure a return for Windass.
