Rangers given green light to sign Emil Bohinen as key preference shared
Rangers have pushed themselves back into Scottish Premiership title contention after winning four of their last five matches.
Rangers were 2-1 victors over St Mirren on Tuesday, and that closed the gap between them and table toppers Hearts to just six points ahead of their Old Firm showdown against Celtic.
Danny Rohl knows the importance of beating their arch rivals in the context of the title race, whilst some positive spending in the January transfer window can accelerate their chances of winning the league.
Rohl is targeting multiple positions to improve his squad this month, and one of those is a central midfielder to rival the likes of Connor Barron and Nicolas Raskin.
Emil Bohinen wants Rangers transfer
According to reports, Rangers are accelerating a transfer for Genoa midfielder Emil Bohinen, who is currently on loan at Serie B side Venezia.
Bohinen has caught the attention of several clubs across Europe, including Spezia and multiple Eredivisie sides, with Genoa and Venezia reportedly agreeing to terminate his loan early.
Interest from other European teams would have probably worried Rohl, although Tutto Venezia Sport have reported that the midfielder’s preference is to play abroad, with the article citing interest from Rangers as a point of interest.
Derby-born Bohinen has only made nine appearances in all competitions this term and has failed to produce a single goal involvement.
But the 26-year-old is more of a defensive-minded midfielder, who excels at winning possession back and can dictate play from deep, which is something Rangers have arguably lacked in their engine room.

Rangers eyeing long-term Nicolas Raskin replacement
Bohinen has been labelled ‘very strong’ for his dominant midfield displays in the past, and he could be a genuine contender to replace Raskin.
Rangers have been tipped to sell Raskin for a sizeable fee to aid their spending in January, with the Belgian international arguably tempted by opportunities elsewhere.
Indeed, Rangers want at least £13million for Raskin, and if they can persuade a European club to cough up that amount, then some of the money can be reinvested into capturing Bohinen and other players required.
After a disastrous summer of business under Kevin Thelwell, it’s refreshing that the Light Blues are planning ahead.
