‘Rangers and Celtic fans no longer laughing at me after recent comments’ – Barry Ferguson

Barry Ferguson refuses to back down on his previous comments ahead of the latest Rangers clash with Celtic.

Rangers travel to face Celtic on Saturday in the second Old Firm matchup of the season in the Scottish Premiership.

The last league meeting represented an incredibly boring game as Rangers and Celtic saw out a goalless draw at Ibrox in August.

Things have changed for both sides since then, with Danny Rohl in charge of the Gers and Wilfried Nancy under pressure as the new Celtic boss.

The Light Blues have more than a fair opportunity to win at Parkhead, sparking Ferguson to hit back at those who doubted his prior predictions.

Barry Ferguson backs Rangers to win Scottish Premiership title

Rangers secured a 2-1 win over St Mirren last time around to maintain their standing in third place ahead of Motherwell in the table.

The Govan outfit are three points behind Celtic in second and six off Hearts at the top of the tree after 19 games played.

The picture at the top of the Scottish Premiership could change after this weekend, should Rohl’s men pick up three points away at Celtic Park.

Former Rangers boss Ferguson has always maintained that a title charge was possible for the Light Blues, even when that sparked raised eyebrows from all supporters at Ibrox and beyond.

The Scot has now called out those who laughed at him in his latest Daily Record article ahead of the upcoming Old Firm clash.

He said: “A couple of weeks ago, I wrote that the league title was still doable for Rangers. And I’m more than aware of how that one went down.

Let’s just say that Celtic fans were laughing at me, and even some of the supporters I bumped into inside Ibrox were giving me funny looks as if, ‘Are you feeling alright, Barry?’

And now here we all are, starting the New Year with an Old Firm derby which could see Danny Rohl’s side draw level with Celtic in second place, heading into the second half of the campaign.

And when I say ‘could’, I really think they ‘will’.

What has Danny Rohl said before the Old Firm?

Ferguson is clearly backing the Light Blues to secure victory against their biggest rivals, but things never come easy at Parkhead.

Hamza Igamane may have smashed home a winner in the last outing, but with the Moroccan gone, it is yet to be seen who will step up to the plate.

The Gers have built up a resiliency in the Scottish Premiership in recent weeks, and they will certainly need that to secure three points across Glasgow on Saturday.

Rohl clearly understands that and is keen to see the best of his side once again as he spoke out in his pre-match press conference.

He said: “Every team, every system has weaknesses, if we play quick and fast then we will be in a good way. We created a lot of moments against Motherwell in the transition. I want to see a brave team.
