Danny Rohl holds talks with Andrew Cavenagh as three names emerge on Rangers transfer shortlist
Danny Rohl has indicated to Andrew Cavenagh that a new left-back is a priority at Rangers in the winter transfer window.
Westerlo defender Tuur Rommens has been linked with a move to Ibrox and is being tracked by the Gers to strengthen their backline.
Rohl could also get AEK Athens’ James Penrice, with the ex-Hearts left-back admired by Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson during their time in the Light Blues’ dugout.
The German manager is eyeing multiple transfers in January, and it will be interesting to see who walks through the door in Govan in the coming days.
Rangers need to thrash out Josh Windass deal
While former Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass is of interest, the Gers need to come to an agreement with Wrexham, Adam Binnie says.
The Sky Sports journalist revealed that a series of meetings have been held between Rohl and Cavenagh at Ibrox, with Rommens, Penrice and the 31-year-old Englishman in the Light Blues’ shortlist.
With the Glaswegian outfit looking at a busy transfer window, the situation around all three players will be worth watching closely in G51.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on 2 January, Binnie said, “Rohl has held a series of meetings with Cavenagh and others to let them know what he is looking for. It will come as a surprise to nobody that left-back is a priority for Rangers. Rommens is a player who is being tracked, as is Penrice.”
The journalist added, “Rohl is also understood to be looking to strengthen in central midfield and attacking areas. Windass is someone of interest, but it remains to be seen if a deal can be thrashed out with Wrexham.”
While a bid to sign Windass on loan at Ibrox has already been rejected, the Gers aren’t giving up on reuniting the attacking-midfielder with the German manager in Govan.
Who else has Danny Rohl been linked with signing at Ibrox?
Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl seems like a major target for Rohl, with the Light Blues certainly needing to make a significant investment in the 20-year-old Norway Under-21 international.
Pau’s defensive midfielder Daylam Meddah is also wanted at Ibrox, but it remains to be seen how many players Rangers will end up signing.

The German manager will be hoping to strengthen his squad to kickstart the Light Blues’ season and potentially take Hearts all the way in the William Hill Premiership.
With proper recruitment, there’s no reason why the Glaswegian outfit can’t dream of winning the league title this season.
