Rangers could hammer final nail in Wilfried Nancy’s coffin as Chris Sutton speaks out on Celtic horror show

Rangers have closed the gap on Celtic after beating St Mirren 2-1 in the William Hill Premiership on Tuesday.

Stephen Robinson’s team suffered defeat at Ibrox on 30 December, with Thelo Aasgaard and Emmanuel Fernandez scoring for the Gers.

Jack Butland was the hero once again after saving Marcus Fraser’s penalty, with the Saints coming back into the game soon after, with Mikael Mandron getting a goal back in the 82nd minute.

As for the Glaswegian outfit’s Old Firm rivals, they lost 2-0 at Fir Park on the day, with Wilfried Nancy suffering his fifth loss in seven games in charge of the Hoops.

Wilfried Nancy fighting for Celtic future vs Rangers

Parkhead is set to host the Gers on 3 January for Nancy’s first experience of the Old Firm derby in the league.

With the mood amongst Celtic fans getting toxic with each passing day, the former Columbus Crew boss may be fighting for his job against the Gers.

The Light Blues have been in decent form of late, losing just one of their last 10 games in the William Hill Premiership, which has seen them claw their way closer to the top of the table.

Writing on X on 30 December, Chris Sutton said, “After being outplayed by Motherwell tonight, Saturday’s game against Rangers feels quite big now for Nancy.”

Sutton has been worried about Nancy’s position at Parkhead for some time now, and many fans in G40 already want to see him leave before hosting the Gers.

Rohl may have an opportunity to put the final nail in the French manager’s coffin, with the Govan side surely smelling blood after the horror show at Celtic.

Danny Rohl has uphill battle after Parkhead record

Rohl hasn’t ruled out winning the William Hill Premiership this season, and a win over Celtic could be massive for the Light Blues.

Rangers will be level on points with their Old Firm rivals if they win at Parkhead, but that may be a tall order for the German manager.

In the last 10 Old Firm Derbies at Celtic’s home ground, the Gers have won just once, that being last season’s enthralling 3-2 victory in March.

The Light Blues have suffered defeat in eight of those matches, which highlights the magnitude of the challenge despite Nancy’s woes.
