Billy Dodds blown away by what he saw Rangers player do vs St Mirren

Ex-Rangers player and assistant manager Billy Dodds couldn’t believe what he saw from Jayden Meghoma against St Mirren.

Rangers ran out 2-1 winners over St Mirren at Ibrox on Tuesday night, with Meghoma providing the assist for Thelo Aasgaard’s opener.

Danny Rohl is dealing with a host of key injuries, but that didn’t stop his side from making it back-to-back wins in the league, after Rangers beat Motherwell 1-0 last Saturday.

Rangers now prepare to take on Celtic in an Old Firm clash at Parkhead on Saturday, in what is a game that looks to have major Premiership title implications on the line as well as Glasgow bragging rights.

Billy Dodds raves over Jayden Meghoma moment against St Mirren

Brentford loanee Meghoma has endured a mixed spell at Rangers so far.

Given the fact he’s still only 19, up and down performances are to be expected, but what can’t be disputed is that when the left-back has been at his best, he looks every bit of a top-class defender at Premiership level.

And indeed it was he who played a huge hand in Rangers‘ opening goal against St Mirren, with his pinpoint first-time cross following a short corner routine picking out the head of an unmarked Aasgaard, who then powered home a header into the net.

It was a reminder of the quality he possesses, and analysing the goal on BBC Scotland Sportscene, Dodds was a huge fan of Meghoma’s delivery.

“You can see there’s a player there (Aasgaard) and he’s definitely got a goal in him,” Dodds began.

“But the delivery from Meghoma is brilliant… A brilliantly worked goal from Rangers.”

That’s now Meghoma’s third assist of the season so far, whilst he’s also added a goal among his 16 Premiership appearances in 2025-26 to this point.

Meghoma could become assist-machine if Rangers do certain January business

Evidently, Meghoma has a wonderful left-footed delivery in his arsenal, but due to the struggles they’ve had in attack, it’s potential is perhaps being capped at present in this Rangers side.

Rohl is known to want a new centre-forward in January, with Youssef Chermiti, Bojan Miovski and Danilo all failing to provide the goods in terms of goals so far this term.

However, if Rangers can add a prolific striker this winter, then pairing him up with Meghoma’s deliveries could be a recipe for major success.
