Barry Ferguson admits greed over Djedi Gassama after what just happened at Rangers
Barry Ferguson has demanded much more from Rangers and Djedi Gassama despite the latest win over Motherwell.
Rangers beat Motherwell 1-0 on Saturday to leapfrog them into third place, and now they sit just nine points behind league leaders Hearts with a game in hand.
Danny Rohl‘s revival at Rangers is going incredibly well, with the Bears winning 23 points from their 10 league games under the German’s stewardship.
With the games coming thick and fast for the Light Blues, former boss Ferguson believes Gassama has the potential to become one of Rangers’ best players under Rohl.

Djeidi Gassama has an abundance of potential he has yet to show
Gassama joined Rangers for £2.2million from Sheffield Wednesday after two promising seasons in the Championship.
Against Motherwell, his shot led to Thelo Aasgaard’s winner, and he was unstoppable on the wing, creating four chances and having 13 touches in the opposition box.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show Podcast on 29 December, Ferguson believes that Rangers fans have yet to see the best from the French winger.
He said: “I’m gonna be greedy on Gassama; I want to see more. I think there’s so much more in him. He’s a difference maker, and when he’s positive, he’s very hard to stop.
| Stat | Gassama |
| Appearances | 18 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Chances created | 20 |
| Successful dribbles | 36 |
| Touches in opposition box | 106 |
“He was a thorn in Motherwell’s side; his first touch was forward, and he attacked the wing back. If he brings that to the party more often, he’ll win games of football for Rangers.”
The French winger has shown invention and ingenuity on the left-hand side, but after scoring four goals in his first four games, he has only scored once since.
Gassama had made only 15 key passes (passes leading directly to shots) in the league before Saturday, but against Motherwell alone, he managed five.
His underlying numbers are extremely impressive, but he desperately needs to improve his end product if he wants to reach the next level under Rohl at Ibrox.
Danny Rohl can’t afford to lose Djeidi Gassama in January transfer window
It emerged in recent weeks that Villarreal identified Gassama as a January target, with the Light Blues looking to make more than double what they paid for him.
However, those links have gone real quiet as the transfer window opens on 1 January, and supporters will be thankful that he looks set to stay in Govan.
Gassama offers something different to any Rangers player in the squad, and that’s a frightening mix of pace and trickery.
In today’s market, that is a rare combination to find in a player, and with January proving to be a time when clubs are fickle when negotiating deals for their players, the Bears don’t want to be left with replacing Gassama in the final week of January.
If he does stay put, Rohl could potentially get the best out of him in the second half of the season, and Rangers could sell him for even more later down the line.
