Tuur Rommens breaks silence on Rangers transfer as Danny Rohl prepares January spending

Tuur Rommens insists he isn’t aware of transfer reports linking him with a move to Rangers.

Rangers are expected to be busy in the January transfer window, with yet another rebuild needed.

Gretar Steinsson was spotted attending Rangers’ win over Motherwell on Saturday, as the American ownership looks to put together a more successful winter window than the summer.

Danny Rohl is reportedly targeting players within Scottish football in January, whilst Rangers are also said to be in the market for a new striker.

Tuur Rommens breaks Rangers transfer silence

There are a myriad of areas that need strengthening in Rangers‘ squad over the next couple of transfer windows, and one of those may be at the left-back spot.

Jayden Meghoma has been impressing at Ibrox this season, but he is only on loan from Brentford until the end of the campaign, and the Bees will likely want to keep hold of the talented teenager.

Therefore, eyeing up a new long-term starter in that position would be a pragmatic move, and Rommens has been linked with a move to Rangers in recent days.

The 22-year-old Belgian youth international has been starring for Westerlo over the last few years, and appears ready to make the next step in his career.

However, as per a fresh update via the Daily Record, Rommens has suggested that he isn’t aware of any interest from Rangers heading into January.

“I don’t know anything about any transfer to Rangers. We’ll have to wait and see,” he said.

Rommens’ season so far by the numbers

With the Belgian league now in the midst of its winter break, with the fixtures starting again on 16 January, Rommens has once again established himself as a top defender in his homeland this term.

He’s made 15 Belgian Pro League appearances in 2025-26, with 14 of those being starts, and is averaging a 7.02/10 rating per game, according to FotMob.

So far this season, he’s created 20 chances, registering a 35.5 per cent cross success rate and a 76 per cent dribble success rate.

No other left-back in Belgium’s top flight has won more ground duels (104) or more aerial duels (39) than Rommens, offering a glimpse of the steeliness he could bring to Rangers’ team.

Therefore, he looks to have the makings of being a very smart signing indeed if Rangers can get it over the line.
