Danny Rohl reveals everything he said to Andrew Cavenagh in Rangers transfer meeting

Danny Rohl has made it abundantly clear to Andrew Cavenagh what he requires for his Rangers squad during the January transfer window.

Rangers beat Motherwell 1-0 on Saturday evening and are now just nine points behind Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with a game in hand.

Thelo Aasgaard scored the winner for Rohl’s side, with the midfielder tapping in at the back post midway through the second half, after Calum Ward failed to hold Djeidi Gassama’s curling shot.

Following the game, Rohl revealed the details of a meeting he had with Rangers owner Cavenagh as the hierarchy prepare for the transfer window.

Danny Rohl challenges Rangers to be ‘brave and bold’

Rangers have already sacked Russell Martin, Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart so far this season, with the trio paying the price for an abysmal summer transfer window.

The poor recruitment has left Rohl with a huge challenge on his hands, as he tries to get the best out of a distinctly average group of players.

However, the January window gives the former Sheffield Wednesday manager the first chance to put his own stamp on the Rangers squad.

Speaking after the Gers’ victory over Motherwell, Rohl revealed that he has urged Cavenagh to be “brave” and “bold” in upcoming transfer dealings.

Rohl said: “I had a good meeting with Andrew Cavenagh and we are very clear. I think there is one guideline for me. Off the pitch we have to make brave and bold decisions.

“It should not be something between maybe, or maybe not. It’s a no or a yes – not between – if I think this is what I want to see from myself, but also from us as a club that we are brave enough to make strong decisions.”

What positions do Rangers need to address in January?

Rangers can surely expect a busy January window, given the clear lack of quality currently in the squad.

In particular, Rohl will be hoping that an out-and-out goalscorer is brought in, with the likes of Youssef Chermiti, Bojan Miovski, and Danilo all underperforming so far this season.

A left-back will also be a priority for the Rangers recruitment team, as they look to improve the squad for the second half of the campaign.

The Gers are in need of some creativity in midfield, and Jens Hjerto-Dahl has been touted as a potential option to fill that void.

Whoever Rangers decide to bring in, they will have to hit the ground running at Ibrox to dispel any memory of the woeful summer transfer window.
