Rangers employee reacts to BBC Sportscene footage after controversy v Motherwell – ‘Silly’

Rangers and Motherwell somehow only scored one goal between them on a fiery afternoon full of action at Ibrox on Saturday.

Rangers beat Motherwell 1-0 thanks to Thelo Aasgaard’s second-half goal, but there was action and controversy at every corner in Govan.

Jack Butland was on fire, and Danny Rohl saw his side waste several glorious chances before eventually picking up the three points.

Rangers got away with one to keep the clean sheet, though, with Emmanuel Fernandez possibly going unpunished for a lazy challenge in the box.

Rangers footage proves Scottish FA mistake

Leanne Crichton believes that Fernandez was lucky to get away with one after dangling a leg, admitting it didn’t look right, even when watching live.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene, the Rangers Women manager believes that the replays don’t make for great watching of the incident.

“We watched it live, and at the time, we thought there may have been something there, simply because we have played the game and you recognise the reaction of the players and the motion.

Also, where you are on the pitch and when you take that next step that Fadinger does go beyond, it looks to me that he’s in on goal, so it would have been silly for him to go down without there being contact.

“Needless to say, the incident wasn’t looked at for very long; we know it would have been checked by VAR.

Danny Rohl needs January transfers quickly

As Crichton said, Lukas Fadinger had no reason to go down, and Rangers can count themselves lucky that David Dickinson, or VAR, intervened.

It only goes to show just how much Rohl needs new signings.

With John Souttar and Derek Cornelius suffering injuries, Fernandez is now partnering Dujon Sterling in the heart of defence at Ibrox.

Rangers want another option in defence in January, and based on this evidence, it is desperately needed.

Fernandez has proved himself a great weapon in the final third from set-pieces, but his defending needs some work, which is expected for a younger player.

With more experience around him, the young Englishman could really keep progressing into a top centre-half, and his recent chances in the first team will only help that.
