SFA told to resolve major issue after ‘worrying’ scenes in Rangers vs Motherwell

Keith Hackett has called for the Scottish FA to take action over what happened ahead of kickoff between Rangers and Motherwell.

Danny Rohl’s side took on Jens Berthel Askou’s at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon looking to close the gap on leaders Hearts after their 3-2 defeat at Hibs.

Jack Butland kept the home side in it during a disjointed first 45 minutes as Rangers struggled to get over their 2-1 loss to Hearts last week.

But it was the actions in the stands from the travelling support that concerned Hackett prior to the first whistle at Rangers.

Keith Hackett worried about Motherwell fans pyro at Ibrox

Motherwell fans in the corner of Ibrox lit a number of flares in a full away section and former head of the PGMOL Hackett was concerned about the safety of supporters in the area.

The ex-FIFA and Premier League referee exclusively told Ibrox News: “The Scottish FA need to resolve this issue.

“I worry about the safety aspect of fans.”

Rangers can’t take golden opportunities this term

The debate around pyro in Scottish football will run and run but whether any action will be taken after the Motherwell flares at Ibrox remain to be seen.

How much of an effect it had on the visitors is also difficult to determine but Motherwell certainly started the more dangerously on the day, with only Butland between a 2-0 deficit early as acres of space were routinely left down the Gers left flank.

Rangers did grow into the game as the half went on but were still making heavy weather of it, with the much-maligned and exit-linked Youssef Chermiti showing willing up front but unable to sort his feet to direct his shots.

With Wilfried Nancy’s arrival destabilising Celtic until recently the Light Blues slipped up last week against the leaders, and now Hearts have been beaten in the Edinburgh derby Rangers are again struggling to capitalise.

This looks like being a season that goes down as a huge missed opportunity at Ibrox.
