49ers transfer supremo spotted at Ibrox with Andrew Cavenagh as Rangers win 1-0 vs Motherwell

Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh was spotted with Gretar Steinsson at Ibrox on Saturday.

Danny Rohl’s side took on Motherwell in the Premiership, in what was a must-win game for Rangers following their previous defeat to Hearts.

Rangers strikers were sent a clear message by Rohl, with the German coach admitting that the battle for the starting number nine role is wide open.

He won’t have got closer to finding his answer against on Saturday despite the fact Rangers beat Motherwell 1-0, as it was Thelo Aasgaard’s 67th-minute goal that sealed the three points.

Andrew Cavenagh watches Motherwell win with 49ers chief

Following a disappointing summer transfer window and the disastrous appointment of Russell Martin, Rangers chairman Cavenagh has been coming in for significant criticism since he fronted the 49ers Enterprises’ takeover of the club back in May.

The US-based businessman spreads his time across his various business interests, meaning he doesn’t attend Ibrox for every Rangers match.

However, as captured in an image shared by The Rangers Review via X, Cavenagh can be shown in attendance for the Motherwell game, with 49ers’ technical director Steinsson stood below him seen wearing a flat cap.

They will have been pleased with what they saw too, as after much huffing and puffing as well as seeing a Nico Raskin goal disallowed for offside, Rangers eventually found the winner through Aasgaard in the second half.

Rangers jury still very much out on 49ers ownership

To say this season hasn’t gone to plan for Rangers would be a massive understatement.

As in the event of any piece of major change at a football club, whether it be in the boardroom or in the dugout, first impressions are essential to collecting fan support for the new era.

However, with the 49ers’ first aforementioned managerial appointment of their reign being as calamitous as Martin’s tenureship turned out to be, paired with a poor summer of recruitment that hasn’t yielded too many key first-team contributors, has ensured Cavenagh and his other chiefs haven’t made the best one.

It remains to be seen whether Cavenagh and his boardroom will be the trigger-happy type, or will be prepared to back Rohl for the foreseeable future, but they have to be seen to get more decisions right than they do wrong.

At this present time, it’s difficult to say that’s been the case with the 49ers at Ibrox.
