Danny Rohl sends new message to his Rangers strikeforce ahead of Motherwell clash

Danny Rohl is still undecided about his first choice Rangers striker for the rest of the season.

Centre-forward has been a real problem position for the Gers in recent months, with Youssef Chermiti, Bojan Miovski, and Danilo all trying and failing to secure a long-term starting berth.

The trio have managed just seven Scottish Premiership goals between them this term, and all three have come in for criticism.

Now, Rohl has laid all of his cards on the table and told his strikers exactly what will happen going forward into 2026.

Rangers strikers have chance to impress

Rangers signed Chermiti from Everton over the summer for around £10million, but the 21-year-old has struggled badly at Ibrox.

He did manage to grab his second goal of the season on Sunday, but Rangers still fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Hearts.

Miovski was another who came in over the summer, and while the North Macedonian international has fared slightly better than Chermiti, he has still underwhelmed.

With Danilo also out of form, Rohl has now sent a new message to the entirety of his strike force, informing them that the permanent number nine role is still up for grabs.

Speaking ahead of Rangers’ trip to Motherwell on Saturday, Rohl said: “The message to the players, especially to the centre forwards, is that I’m looking for a number nine who is always the starter. That’s the challenge.

“Three players have tried to be the number nine, and the following weeks now will show who is the number nine.”

Bojan Miovski set for big Rangers opportunity

Miovski has arguably shown the most out of the three strikers so far this season, although that is hardly a compliment given some of the performances of Chermiti and Danilo.

The 26-year-old has scored three in his last three appearances for the Gers, including a brace against Kilmarnock earlier this month.

Against Hearts, though, Miovski was well off the pace, and he was brought off in the 74th minute with the Glasgow outfit two goals behind.

However, due to the lack of quality behind him, the former Girona man may be afforded another opportunity against Motherwell.

If Rohl gives Miovski a start, he has to perform and prove to the German manager that he has what it takes to be Rangers’ full-time number nine.
