Rangers surprise to emerge with bargain Josh Windass transfer from Wrexham

Rangers probably won’t be able to offer a significant fee to sign Wrexham attacking-midfielder Josh Windass in the winter transfer window.

The 31-year-old, who spent two years in Govan between 2016 and 2018, joined the Welsh outfit in the summer for free.

Danny Rohl is now looking to reunite with Windass as the German manager looks to find solutions for the Gers’ attacking woes.

Youssef Chermiti is being tipped with an exit from Ibrox, but it doesn’t look like the Glaswegian outfit will be able to reinforce their attack with the Englishman currently playing at SToK Cae Ras.

Rangers would amaze with Josh Windass deal

It would be surprising to see Wrexham let Windass sign for the Gers on loan in January, Jonny McFarlane says.

The journalist doesn’t think the Championship club will want to see the attacking-midfielder depart after scoring six goals and providing three assists in 19 league matches.

With finances at Ibrox arguably tight, the Light Blues may not be able to offer Y Dreigiau what they might be looking for in terms of a fee for the versatile English forward.

Speaking on The Rangers Review on 25 December, McFarlane said, “Wrexham are a team with plenty of money. He’s played 19 times in the Championship, and he’s had nine goal contributions. So I’d be amazed if they’re going to let him out on loan. And I’d be amazed if they let him go for the buttons that Rangers will probably be prepared for a 31-year-old.”

Chris Jack revealed that an offer for Windass from Ibrox is yet to be made, but it’s obvious to see why Rohl would want him in Govan.

The German manager is struggling for a reliable goalscorer at the Glaswegian outfit and knows what the Englishman can bring to the table after working with him at Sheffield Wednesday.

Josh Windass has already revealed what he thinks about Danny Rohl

Windass seems open to holding talks regarding a return to Ibrox, but it remains to be seen whether the Gers will be successful in their bid.

Rangers have seen a massive turnaround since Rohl replaced Russell Martin, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement.

Rohl’s record as Rangers manager

It may not be difficult to convince the Wrexham attacker, who has previously spoken in glowing terms about the German manager: “He’s probably the best coach I’ve ever worked with. His detail and his understanding.”

With fans expecting movement at the Glaswegian outfit in the winter transfer window, the situation in G51 will surely be one to watch closely.
