Rangers January transfer window guide: Who Danny Rohl could sign, who could be sold and deadline day explained

Rangers are expected to be in the headlines as Danny Rohl prepares for a busy winter transfer window.

There’s been a sea of change at the Gers since the start of the season, with Russell Martin lasting just 123 days in the job.

Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart were also sacked towards the end of November, with supporters particularly frustrated by the Light Blues’ summer recruitment under the former sporting director.

The ex-Everton chief was responsible for 12 signings, most of whom have arguably failed to live up to expectations, and the Glaswegian outfit will now look to learn from their lessons in January.

When the January transfer window opens and closes

Rohl is expected to be backed by Andrew Cavenagh, with the Gers set to make a significant recruitment effort in the coming weeks.

The Light Blues’ chairman has also appointed former Rosenborg and Aarhus sporting director Stig Inge Bjornebye in a consultancy role, with the Norwegian expected to take part in planning for new signings at Ibrox.

On 1 January 2026, the transfer window will officially open in Scotland and England, and it will be interesting to see what the Glaswegian outfit have lined up.

Rohl will have until 2 February 2026 to get his business done in Govan, but supporters in G51 will hope Rangers don’t leave anything until deadline day.

Rangers January transfer targets

Wrexham’s Josh Windass and Westerlo left-back Tuur Rommens have emerged as targets for the Gers just days before the window opens.

Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl has also been linked with a move to Ibrox, but it will be interesting to see whether the Light Blues will want to spend a significant sum on the Norwegian prospect.

Fans in G51 would arguably like to see a complete squad overhaul, as the Glaswegian outfit go through one of their toughest spells in recent history.

Thelwell arguably worsened the squad since last season and was unable to adequately replace the likes of Leon Balogun, Jefte, Vaclav Cerny, Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers.

Who Danny Rohl could sell before deadline day

Joe Rothwell and three other players are expected to leave Ibrox as the Gers look to turn over a new leaf.

Clinton Nsiala, Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo have chances to leave the Light Blues, along with the former Bournemouth midfielder, after playing a bit-part role this season.

Nicolas Raskin’s situation at Ibrox will also be worth watching closely, with Besiktas preparing an offer for the Belgium international.

The 24-year-old’s sale could potentially bring a hefty profit to the Glaswegian outfit, and Hjerto-Dahl seems like his perfect successor.

Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have shown they aren’t afraid to spend, and January could potentially mark the start of a new title-challenging era in Govan.
