Josh Windass’ father responds directly to ‘official’ Rangers transfer move for Wrexham ace
Dean Windass has been set back by the latest claims at Rangers.
Danny Rohl believes Rangers have an outside chance of winning the Scottish Premiership this season, though after such a turgid start to the campaign, it would require a miracle.
Not only would performance levels of those currently at Ibrox have to improve signficantly, but the Gers would also have to recruit smartly in January to stand even the smallest of chances.
In regard to the business needed in January, Josh Windass has been linked with a return to Rangers, with his father, Dean, reacting to the claims.
Windass rumours questioned at Rangers
Windass made 73 appearances for Rangers between 2016 and 2018, before making the move to England, where he would go on to play for Wigan, Sheffield Wednesday, and now Wrexham in Wales.
However, recent reports have suggested that a return to Ibrox could be on the cards for Windass, who has scored six times in 21 appearances for the Welsh outfit.
Ibrox Radio claimed that Rangers have made an “official approach” for the Wrexham star with a view to a January reunion, and Dean Windass has reacted to the report.
Via X, he posted a screenshot of the report, captioned with a shrugging emoji as well as a football emoji.
Given Rangers’ struggles from an attacking perspective this season, it may be a deal that would make sense, but Dean’s reaction to the reports are interesting to say the least.
Windass regretted Rangers exit in 2025 admission
Windass was in line to be a star at Rangers before summer 2018 arrived, when he would go on to join Wigan Athletic in the Championship.
It was a move that made little to no sense at the time, and Windass has since revealed his regret at quitting Ibrox, admitting that money was a factor.
Via Open Goal in the summer, he said: “I didn’t have an agent or anything. It was a bad decision. I was 23, and I wanted a bigger wage. I was stupid.”
The 31-year-old went on to score just nine goals for Wigan in 56 appearances, leaving the question as to what could have been if he remained at Rangers that summer window.
