James Tavernier has already offered Josh Windass verdict as Rangers return mooted
Rangers are in the market for a fresh injection of attacking firepower, and Josh Windass could return to Ibrox in January.
The Gers famously captured Windass from Accrington Stanley for just £60,000 in 2016, and the Englishman became a hero in Scotland.
The versatile forward plundered 19 goals and supplied 13 assists in 73 appearances for Rangers, before joining Wigan Athletic in 2018 after Steven Gerrard couldn’t guarantee him a starting place in his plans.
Ahead of January, Rangers have been linked with a sensational transfer for Windass, with one player surely delighted by this update.

James Tavernier’s comments on Josh Windass
Since leaving the Light Blues in 2018, Windass has established himself as a top Championship striker, becoming a hero at Sheffield Wednesday across seven years.
The 31-year-old scored 53 goals in 182 appearances for the Owls, who were forced into letting him depart on a free transfer to Wrexham in the summer.

Windass could already exit the Welsh side – despite netting six times in 19 second-tier appearances – with James Tavernier’s comments arguably explaining why they want him.
Speaking about the forward in 2018, the Rangers captain said via the Daily Record: “Josh has goals in him. He’s a quick player, good with his feet and possesses really good ability.
“He’s a decent lad, good to have in our team and I’m very happy with him.
“He’s definitely got it in him to go even further in football. It’s just about consistency for Josh. You’ll see his performances shine out and now he’s adding goals to his game.”
Ultimately, it is clear to see why the Light Blues have placed Windass on their radar.
Rangers must resolve striker woes to get back in title race
While they’re currently 12 points adrift of leaders Hearts following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat, Danny Rohl is confident Rangers can still win the league title.
But to stand any chance of completing a sensational comeback, the Gers must undo the disastrous work of Kevin Thelwell, who was sacked by Rangers after a string of unforgivable errors.
One of those was Rangers paying £10million for Youssef Chermiti from Everton, with the 21-year-old scoring twice in 11 league appearances.
That is why a transfer of Windass, a proven Championship striker, can revitalise Rohl’s attack with pressing, clever movement and clinical finishing.
