Steven Gerrard predicts exactly when Rangers could taste success under Danny Rohl

Steven Gerrard has revealed that his success at Rangers only came about through yearly progression.

Danny Rohl was appointed at a time when the Gers were in disarray, and now he’s been left to almost rebuild from scratch.

Just weeks after the Germans’ appointment, both Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart were relieved of their duties after failing to convince anyone that they were the men needed for Rangers in the backroom.

It’s now a process of Rohl stripping everything back, clearing out deadwood, and getting Rangers back to success – but it will take time.

Gerrard‘s latest comments on his time at Ibrox prove that.

Steven Gerrard talks on three-year phase at Rangers for success

Gerrard nearly rejoined Rangers earlier this year after the sacking of Russell Martin, but Rohl was to be appointed the latter’s successor – eventually.

The former Gers boss held talks with Andrew Cavenagh and Co. but ultimately felt the time was not right to return to Glasgow.

Speaking on Ally’s Social Club on Monday, Gerrard opened up on his time at Rangers, and at what stage he had confidence that silverware was going to come back to Ibrox.

Gerrard said: “In the first three years, I think we would come unstuck by the heat of the Ibrox crowd at times.

“We came short in years one and two because maybe a bit of experience and building the group wasn’t ready in the first two years. But I felt in the third year, we had a really strong year.”

Given that Gerrard is the Gers’ most successful head coach in recent times, a three-season wait for Rohl to lift a trophy at Ibrox may be required.

Gerrard vs Danny Rohl – First nine league games comparison

Unlike Rohl, Gerrard had the luxury of top-quality players during his first season, with the likes of Josh Windass, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.

In the Liverpudlian’s first campaign in charge of the Bears, he led Rangers to a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.

After Rangers’ 2-1 defeat to Hearts on the weekend, Rohl has now managed nine league games in charge of the Gers.

Rohl is actually doing better than Gerrard did in the Scottish Premiership after nine games in charge.

It’s going to take time and patience, but the German is destined to lead the Bears back to the good times once again.
