‘Significant’ new details emerge in Rangers bid to re-sign Josh Windass
Kevin Thelwell’s blunder in the summer transfer has left Rangers needing to pick up the pieces in January, and one position is a priority.
Rangers are looking to sign a new centre-forward in January after watching Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski struggle to live up to expectations.
Chermiti’s consolation goal against Hearts on Sunday was only his second since joining for a whopping £10million from Everton, while Miovski has only returned three in 13 Scottish Premiership appearances.
Scottish football expert Scott McDermott was surprised at Rangers struggling to score goals, given how much they spent to bolster their squad, and January presents another opportunity to open the chequebook.

Rangers need to pay ‘significant’ fee to sign Josh Windass
In a bid to fix their goalscoring woes, Rangers have been linked with a move to re-sign Josh Windass from Wrexham.
Windass left the Gers to join Wigan in 2018 after spending two full seasons at the club, which included 19 goals and 13 assists in 73 appearances.
The 31-year-old then spent an incredible seven years at Sheffield Wednesday before leaving on a free transfer to join Wrexham in the summer.
According to reports, Rangers were looking at a loan move for the Englishman, as owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds don’t have any plans to sell him.

Rangers are considering a move to re-sign the 31yo.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has even claimed that it would take a ‘significant’ offer for the Championship side to even consider negotiating.

Windass has scored six times in 19 second-tier appearances for Wrexham and would be an excellent addition to Rohl’s squad.
Windass has already revealed his stance on joining Rangers
As it stands, any transfer for the Hull-born forward looks out of reach, and the attacker has already snubbed a return to Ibrox.
Rangers were linked with Windass during the summer, but in an interview with The Athletic in October, he admitted that it wasn’t the ‘right time’ after admitting he only stayed at Wednesday in 2024 because of Rohl.
“I nearly left the previous summer but with the manager [Danny Rohl] staying, I ended up staying too.
“This time, I was ready to move on to a fresh challenge. I could have gone back [to Rangers] this summer.
“I had some really good times there, a great club. But I didn’t think it was right at this time.”
So, with Windass clearly a huge fan of Rohl, perhaps the German can persuade him to return to Scotland in January.
