Rangers have one transfer obstacle as Josh Windass ready for Danny Rohl reunion

Rangers are interested in signing Wrexham attacker Josh Windass on loan in the winter transfer window.

The 31-year-old joined the Welsh outfit as a free agent in the summer, but he’s already leaving the door open regarding an exit in 2026.

Windass was linked with a move to Ibrox, but in the end, the Englishman decided to move to SToK Cae Ras

Danny Rohl is expected to be backed by Andrew Cavenagh in January, and the Glaswegian outfit will certainly be looking to reinforce their attack, having scored fewer goals than eighth-place Dundee United in the William Hill Premiership this season.

Josh Windass to push for Wrexham exit amid Rangers interest

Wrexham have no intention of parting ways with Windass amid interest from the Gers, according to Ben Jacobs.

The GiveMeSport journalist revealed on 23 December that the Light Blues have made a surprise approach to sign the attacker from Y Dreigiau, but an exit isn’t being considered.

Windass is aware of the interest from Ibrox as the Light Blues look to prioritise adding more goals to their squad, but he may have to force his way out of the Welsh outfit.

With Wrexham 15th in the Championship at the moment, the veteran forward hasn’t ruled out a departure.

Windass opted against joining Djeidi Gassama in Govan, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll now be ready to reunite with Rohl in Scotland.

Josh Windass’ spell at Ibrox revisited

Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski haven’t lived up to expectations, and it would make sense for the Gers to sign a new goalscorer sooner rather than later.

Windass spent two full seasons at Rangers before moving to Wigan Athletic in 2018.

The attacker’s versatility saw him playing in various positions for the Light Blues, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists in 73 appearances.

In the 2017-18 season, the Englishman arguably had his best campaign at the Glaswegian outfit, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists in the William Hill Premiership.

Windass’ situation will surely be one to keep an eye on in January.
