Tim Sherwood’s completely lost his mind with Rangers and Celtic comments

Hearts took a huge step towards clinching the Scottish Premiership title with victory over Rangers at the weekend.

Rangers fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday afternoon.

It was a defeat that even saw Kris Boyd pledge his allegiance to Hearts for the rest of the season, as he believes that’s that for the Gers’ title hopes.

Danny Rohl has now tasted his first Premiership defeat as Rangers boss, with Jack Butland coming in for major criticism after he allowed a soft near-post effort from Lawrence Shankland beat him on the way to the defeat.

Tim Sherwood drops surprise Scottish Premiership title race claim

Meanwhile, bitter Glaswegian rivals Celtic were able to finally kickstart the Wilfried Nancy era with a much-needed 3-1 win over Aberdeen, easing the growing cries for the Frenchman to be sacked at Parkhead a matter of weeks into the job.

All those results now mean that Hearts have a six-point lead over Celtic at the top of the table, albeit with the Hoops having a game in hand over the Edinburgh outfit.

As for Rangers, they now sit fourth in the table with Motherwell leapfrogging them into third, and are 12 points behind Hearts.

However, despite those respective gaps, Tim Sherwood isn’t ready to count out Rangers or Celtic from chasing down Hearts for the title.

“What’s really important especially in Scotland, is to get any team outside the Old Firm believing,” Sherwood said speaking on Sky Sports News on Monday.

“And they’ve done it by beating Rangers and Celtic. They’ve just got to go on a little run now. I do think Celtic will come again and Rangers can also put a run together. I think it’s open – it’s not done and dusted.”

There’s no evidence for Rangers putting together a winning run anytime soon

Whilst Sherwood isn’t incorrect to state that Rangers could put a winning run together to eat into Hearts’ growing lead, there is an undeniable lack of evidence to point to when that will come.

Rangers have failed to win more than two games in a row in any competition all season, and have only recorded back-to-back wins on two separate occasions.

Those came with 3-1 and 1-0 wins over Kilmarnock and Hibernian in late October, before beating Dundee FC and Livingston last month respectively.

They are both conceding goals and not scoring enough of them, with the current absence of a goalscorer painfully evident.

In short, Rangers don’t appear to be in obvious possession of enough of the intangibles a title-winning team needs.

And with Hearts beating both Rangers and Celtic in the space of the last three games, they’ve emphatically shown who the best team in Scotland is this season.
