Micah Richards backtracks on Rangers and Celtic comment after Gary Lineker warning
Micah Richards has revealed which club he prefers out of Rangers and Celtic.
Rangers lost ground in the Scottish Premiership after the 2-1 loss against Hearts, where Youssef Chermiti’s late strike was not enough to salvage a point.
That result leaves the Gers fourth in the league, 12 points off the Jambos, who tightened their grip on top spot with the victory at Tynecastle.
The former Manchester City ace was speaking about the title race with Gary Lineker, and confirmed where his allegiances lie when it comes to the Old Firm.
What did Richards say about Rangers and Celtic
Richards revealed that he prefers Celtic over the Gers, primarily due to a connection to some of their former players.
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast on 22 December, he said: “I will always be the Celtic man.”
Lineker responded with a warning, saying: “You’re a Celtic man? You’re going to admit it, on here, that is brave.”
Richards then backtracked, saying: “I love you as well, Rangers, you know that, I just loved Henrik Larsson and John Hartson.”

Why Rangers are not winning over any neutrals right now
Rangers may usually have a chance of winning over neutrals, who have no dog in the fight when it comes to the Old Firm.
However, given the current state of affairs in Govan, there is little chance of that happening, so it is no surprise that Richards picked Celtic, even if he did say it was due to the Hoops’ legends.
Danny Rohl has been forced to pick up the slack from the disaster that Russell Martin left, and as a result, the football is unattractive, and the results are not much better.
Once Rohl implements his ideas fully, with new players that he has picked, then they might see a change in fortunes and be able to bring neutrals on board, rather than them opting for their Glasgow rivals.
Right now, though, as hard as it may be to hear for the Light Blues faithful, the obvious choice is Celtic, even if they are in chaos, as they have been much more successful in recent times.
Hopefully, the G51 outfit can turn it around and soon get the local bragging rights once again and bring bandwagon fans back onto the blue side of the divide.
