Danny Rohl given another Rangers transfer headache after disaster in loss vs Hearts

Rangers lost their first William Hill Premiership game under Danny Rohl against Hearts on Sunday.

Rohl’s team were beaten at Tynecastle Park on 21 December after goals from Stuart Findlay and Lawrence Shankland in the first half.

Youssef Chermiti has had a torrid time since moving to Ibrox, but the former Everton striker found the back of the net in the 95th minute as the Jam Tarts were denied a clean sheet in their 2-1 victory.

The winter transfer window could potentially be a chance for the Glaswegian outfit to add much-needed quality to their squad and possibly give the German manager a team capable of challenging for titles.

Jack Butland transfer replacement on cards at Rangers

Butland has arguably been one of the standout players for the Gers this season, which has been overall underwhelming.

The England international has pulled off some impressive saves this season to keep the Light Blues in games, and he surely deserves the number one spot at Ibrox.

However, Barry Ferguson decided to drop the 32-year-old from the starting lineup towards the end of last season after he made some abysmal errors in between the sticks.

At Tynecastle Park, Butland should’ve arguably done better to stop Lawrence Shankland’s goal, with the striker beating find the back of the net from an awkward angle after beating the goalkeeper at his near post, possibly giving Rohl another transfer headache after the evident issues in defence.

The English shot-stopper made three saves against the Jam Tarts, as per Sofascore, but it was his error that led to a goal that has been the talking point.

Over the 90 minutes, the goalkeeper had a 64 per cent passing accuracy, with only four of his 18 long balls successful, which may tempt Rohl to make a change in between the sticks sooner rather than later.

Danny Rohl reunion on cards at Ibrox with new transfer

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles was a target at Ibrox in the summer, but the Owls’ asking price was deemed too much by the Gers.

Rangers can’t afford to be unwilling to invest in their squad in the upcoming transfer windows, as a massive squad overhaul is clearly needed.

The Light Blues undoubtedly need several quality players who can go straight into the starting lineup after most of Kevin Thelwell’s 12 signings have failed to live up to expectations.

Butland’s tendency to make significant errors in goal have affected the Glaswegian outfit in recent seasons, and Charles should be considered his potential successor.
