What Kris Boyd did live on air will surely anger Rangers fans after Hearts defeat

Rangers blew any chance of winning the Scottish Premiership title with a 2-1 defeat against Hearts at Tynecastle.

The Gers made a bright start to the game and were unfortunate not to take the lead after Bojan Miovski’s close-range strike was ruled out for offside.

Hearts then grew in confidence throughout the first half and took the lead through a fantastic Stuart Findlay header before Rangers target Lawrence Shankland slammed home from a tight angle on the stroke of half-time.

Billy Dodds slammed Jack Butland for not saving the chance from an acute angle, and conceding a second ultimately proved costly.

Kris Boyd pulls out a Hearts shirt live on Sky Sports

Substitute Youssef Chermiti pulled one back for the Light Blues in the final minute of stoppage time, but their 2-1 defeat at Tynecastle put them 12 points behind The Jambos with a game in hand.

Kris Boyd thinks Rangers are now out of the title race, and the former Ibrox hero is urging Hearts to lift the trophy ahead of Celtic.

Speaking live on Sky Sports, Boyd pulled out a Hearts shirt with ‘Boyd 9’ on the back, and said: “I said if Hearts won today, Hearts would be title favourites and I would be supporting them for the rest of the season.

This season, and this season only, [pulls out the Hearts shirt], so look at that, Shankland be worried, I’ve got the number nine shirt as well, I’m ready to rock and roll.”

Boyd is known for trolling Celtic, and this latest move was done to anger their title rivals, but it will also annoy Rangers fans.

The 42-year-old even admitted that he would take Hearts beating his former club two more times if it meant them winning the league ahead of Celtic.

Boyd praises Lawrence Shankland

In the summer, Rangers passed on the opportunity to sign Shankland, with Kevin Thelwell pushing to sign other centre-forwards instead.

Of course, the Gers ended up shelling out £10million on Chermiti, whilst Shankland has made them pay for not snapping up on a free transfer with 11 goals in all competitions.

When analysing the 30-year-old’s performance post-match, Boyd was stunned that Rangers didn’t go all out to sign him.

“Lawrence Shankland, outstanding today,” he said. “How he never ended up at Rangers in the summer is incredible. Incredible.”

Shankland is one of several players Rangers missed out on due to the boards incompetence.
