Danny Rohl must immediately end Mikey Moore experiment at Rangers after Hearts shocker

Rangers threw away their chances of winning the Scottish Premiership title on Sunday, and Mikey Moore had an afternoon to forget.

Rangers were beaten 2-1 by Hearts at Tynecastle, as Danny Rohl’s men now trail the league leaders by a whopping 12 points.

In truth, the Light Blues were the better team in the first half but were punished by strikes from Stuart Findlay and Lawrence Shankland before Youssef Chermiti scored a rare consolation in the dying embers.

Billy Dodds blasted Jack Butland for conceding from a tight angle against Shankland, and he was joined by Mikey Moore on the list of players who struggled.

Mikey Moore struggled against Hearts

In a fixture where Rohl needed his attacking players to be ruthless in the final third, the visitors struggled to create regular meaningful opportunities, and Moore was guilty of that.

The 18-year-old started alongside Bojan Miovski in attack, but offered very little in transition when he’s normally brilliant at driving forward.

Mikey Moore’s stats vs Hearts
90 minutes played
0 accurate crosses
1 shot
8/13 (62%) accurate passes
14x possession lost
3/4 successful dribbles

Moore somehow survived 90 minutes on the pitch, despite registering just one shot on goal and zero accurate crosses, while losing possession a staggering 14 times.

After Ross McCormack recently praised Moore’s recent turnaround, it was disappointing to see the teenager produce a display that lacked real quality.

Moore shouldn’t play striker again

Rohl tried the Tottenham loanee as a centre-forward for the first time against Hearts, and it’s become evident that he must end that experiment straight away.

Moore lacks the physicality to play up top and is easily bullied by defenders, with the talented teenager much better used as a winger or number 10.

Michael Stewart recently claimed that Russell Martin placed too much pressure on Moore during his time in charge, and Rohl could be doing similar.

To rely on a teenager to play number nine was a questionable decision that clearly backfired, so when Rangers host Motherwell next Saturday, the German boss must immediately use Moore as a winger.

Ultimately, Moore’s best attribute is isolating defenders in one-on-one situations with his pace and low centre of gravity.
