Danny Rohl would harm his own cause by making same terrible Rangers call vs Hearts

Danny Rohl should have a fairly straightforward decision to make when it comes to picking Rangers’ starting striker versus Hearts.

Rangers travel to face Hearts at Tynecastle Park on Sunday in a huge Scottish Premiership six-pointer that could see the Gers close the gap on the league leaders.

Bojan Miovski is a doubt for the game, which will come as a huge blow to the Gers’ head coach in one of the most important games of the season so far.

Rangers have been making huge strides under Rohl in the league, and remain undefeated under the young German head coach.

But that doesn’t mean that Rohl is immune to criticism, and if he continues to neglect one striker against Hearts, then his true tactical nous will rightly be questioned.

Danny Rohl has no reason not to start Danilo vs Hearts

Whether or not Miovski is deemed fit to start, Danilo should be either alongside him, or starting up top by himself.

And the reason for that is the fact that Rohl cannot persist with Youssef Chermiti.

It’s not the head coach’s fault that he is limited to quality to use in the final third, and while Danilo is no world beater, why he’s not starting over Chermiti is a mystery.

An unfit Danilo would be better than the Portuguese number nine.

Chermiti is young and unproven, while Danilo is literally a born goalscorer, which has been seen during his time in Holland.

The stats are proving that Rangers are just an in-form striker away from taking the league by storm.

Rangers’ xG to goal rate offers telling insight

Rangers are starting to create plenty of chances under Rohl, and the stats are proving it.

Not everyone is convinced that the 36-year-old is definitely the man to bring silverware fortunes back to Glasgow, but the data highlights why dominance isn’t far away.

Rangers have accumulated 10.17 xG (expected goals) in their last five matches, underperforming the actual number that have been scored by three.

An astonishing 14 big chances have been missed during that period, with Rohl helpless on the sidelines.

Of course, the Rangers boss can help with coaching the players to create goal-scoring chances, but he can’t put the ball in the net himself.

Playing Chermiti isn’t going to help these issues, and Danilo would be a much smarter option for Rohl.
