Chris Sutton’s ‘ridiculous’ Wilfried Nancy prediction to delight Rangers supporters

Celtic have overtaken Rangers as the laughing stock in the William Hill Premiership after appointing Wilfried Nancy.

The French manager has lost his first four games in charge of the Hoops, giving the Gers an opportunity to take advantage of the crisis at Parkhead.

Nancy is reminding many people of Russell Martin, and the former Columbus Crew boss’ stubbornness about his style of play certainly isn’t encouraging for fans in G40.

Danny Rohl has reignited hopes of winning the league title at Ibrox after going eight games unbeaten in the William Hill Premiership, and the Light Blues may soon be further up the table.

Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy worse than Russell Martin at Rangers

Nancy can’t remain Celtic boss if Aberdeen get the three points at Parkhead on 21 December, Chris Sutton says.

While the Englishman admits it’s “slightly ridiculous” to even think that the French manager will be sacked after five games, it may be likely.

Martin lasted just 126 days at Ibrox, but the former Columbus Crew head coach is on course to shatter that abysmal record.

Sutton wrote in the Daily Record on 20 December: “I genuinely can’t quite believe I’m saying it after just four matches in charge, but if Wilfried Nancy makes it five-in-a-row against Aberdeen, his position will be untenable. That sounds slightly ridiculous, and it gives me no pleasure in saying it.”

Rohl faces Derek McInnes’ Hearts at Tynecastle Park, and a win over the league leaders will see them go level on points with Celtic if they lose to Aberdeen.

The Gers fans will certainly be delighted to see that while their club is slowly starting to find their feet under their new manager at Ibrox, the Hoops are plunging into further crisis.

Danny Rohl can continue four-year trend vs Hearts

Rohl has some interesting decisions to make with his starting lineup against Hearts, with Nasser Djiga off to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Rangers are already without John Souttar and Derek Cornelius, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Dujon Sterling play as a centre-back.

The Light Blues have won their last nine games at Tynecastle Park since 2021, and the German manager will hope to maintain that trend.

Three points against the Jam Tarts will surely be pivotal if the Glaswegian outfit want to be considered as serious contenders for the title.
