Keith Jackson to be amazed as Rangers ‘mean business’ after what Andrew Cavenagh does

Rangers have a chance to turn their season around under Danny Rohl in the winter transfer window.

Rohl’s team face Hearts at Tynecastle Park on 21 December, and the Gers have a chance to make a real statement with a win.

The Light Blues can close the gap with the Jam Tarts to six points, and if they win their game in hand, they could be just three points off the top of the table.

Andrew Cavenagh is expected to back Rohl in January, and the Glaswegian outfit’s chairman may have already indicated as much.

Stig Inge Bjornebye appointed by Andrew Cavenagh at Rangers

Stig Inge Bjornebye’s arrival may suggest that the Gers “mean business”, Keith Jackson says.

The Daily Record journalist believes the Light Blues may have already hinted that they want to sign reinforcements in the coming weeks at Ibrox.

If things go to plan for the Glaswegian outfit next month, it could potentially be the start of a resurgence in G51.

Speaking on Hotline Live on 18 December, Jackson said: “They’ve brought in Bjornebye, who will take charge of transfer business in January. And I think that’s already an indicator that they mean business, they want to get stuff done, they want to get players through the door in January.”

The journalist said: “Now, who’s to say that if they get a couple of injured players back, and they bring in three or four players that walk straight into the first team and improve it, then there’s a different Rangers for the second half of the season. And then if they can do all that and beat Hearts, then wow, absolutely, new year, new league, new everything for Rangers.”

Bjornebye will play an advisory role at Ibrox, having signed a six-month deal, but it remains to be seen whether the Gers have learnt their lessons after some underwhelming recruitment under Kevin Thelwell.

Danny Rohl already has priority at Ibrox in January

A new number six is high up on the list for Rohl at Ibrox, with Joe Rothwell expected to leave after attracting interest from down south.

The former Bournemouth midfielder hasn’t enjoyed the best of spells at Rangers after signing in the summer, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Light Blues cut their losses on him.

Rohl is trying to build something special at Ibrox, and while recent performances haven’t been the most convincing, the Glaswegian outfit are still unbeaten in the league under the German manager.

With Celtic drowning in misery on the other side of Glasgow, the Gers have a chance to climb further up the table.
