Keith Jackson tells Andrew Cavenagh to be ‘very careful’ after latest Rangers appointment

Rangers are continuing to rebuild their behind-the-scenes team after a dreadful summer transfer window.

Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers enterprises sacked manager Russell Martin back in October, before sporting director Kevin Thelwell and chief executive Patrick Stewart were also dismissed.

Now, Stig Inge Bjornebye has come in at Rangers as their new football consultant and advisor, ahead of the January transfer window.

The ex-Liverpool left-back has signed a six-month deal and will report directly to chairman Cavenagh, but there are still some worries around the appointment.

Keith Jackson makes Stig Inge Bjornebye claim

Bjornebye will start at Rangers immediately as the club prepare for a busy January window.

Danny Rohl’s squad is in need of reinforcements in multiple areas after a number of poor signings over the summer.

Rohl and Bjornebye will work together to identify new signings, but Cavenagh will ultimately have the final say on any deals.

Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live, Keith Jackson revealed that he has big reservations about the latest appointment, believing that Gretar Steinsson had a big say behind-the-scenes.

Jackson said: “I might be a million miles out here, but my concern would be that this could be another Gretar Steinsson production, that Gretar Steinsson has championed this idea.

“If I were Andrew Cavenagh, I would be very careful about the advice I was getting when it came to making appointments.”

Stig Inge Bjornebye eyes first January signing

Bjornebye is the former sporting director at Norwegian side Rosenborg BK, and could be set to use his previous connections to land an early signing.

Rangers have been linked with Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl, and Bjornebye could be crucial in their attempts to bring in the Norway Under-21 international.

Hjerto-Dahl is highly rated by many and has been nominated for the Eliteserien Young Player of the Year award.

There’s no doubt that Rohl would like to strengthen in midfield areas, and the 20-year-old could prove to be an astute signing.

Bjornebye will be expected to make an immediate impact at Ibrox after the previous failings of Thelwell and Stewart, who were quickly vilified by the fanbase.
