Danny Rohl shares Rangers transfer update fans want to hear as talks underway
Danny Rohl is delighted with the appointment of Stig Inge Bjornebye and is hopeful of concluding some early January transfer business at Rangers.
Bjornebye was hired as interim sporting director earlier this week, helping to fill the void left by the exit of Kevin Thelwell.
Patrick Stewart was also sacked by Rangers from his position as chief executive, making it imperative at least one new appointment was made behind the scenes.
Bjornebye will now oversee Rangers transfer matters in January and the next few windows beyond that, with Rohl confirming he has already held talks with the Norwegian.
Danny Rohl outlines hopes for January transfers at Rangers
Rohl has made no secret of the fact that he would like new signings through the door at Ibrox next month.
Pierre Ekwah has been linked with Rangers, as have countless others, and Rohl has now stated he wants business concluded early on if possible now that Bjornebye is in place.
Sharing an update on Sky Sports News on Friday morning, Rohl said: “[Bjornebye] will help me and especially also the club in transfer windows.
“We’ve had conversations the past few days with each other. It’s good to have him here after losing two people from the board.
“Now it’s about looking forward and preparing for the window. We know this and we want to do something, but we have to do the right things.”
“Behind the scenes we are working hard to prepare everything. Hopefully we can do something early in the window.
“This is what we prepare for, but sometimes you have to wait for the right moment. But we are working in the right direction to find the right players.”
Rohl knows the importance of getting upgrades in as soon as possible. Should Rangers win away at Hearts this weekend, combined with Celtic’s collapse, a title challenge is not out of the question.
Rangers face Celtic on 3 January and have eight games in total up to and including 1 February. That shows the importance of getting business done early on.
January set to be make or break for Rangers
January really is a massive month for the Gers and they cannot afford to waste any time when it comes to conducting business.
| Fixture | Date | Competition |
| Celtic vs Rangers | 03/01 | Scottish Premiership |
| Rangers vs Aberdeen | 06/01 | Scottish Premiership |
| Aberdeen vs Rangers | 11/01 | Scottish Premiership |
| Rangers vs Annan Athletic | 16/01 | Scottish Cup |
| Rangers vs Ludogorets | 22/01 | Europa League |
| Rangers vs Dundee | 25/01 | Scottish Premiership |
| Porto vs Rangers | 29/01 | Europa League |
The Europa League is now a write-off as far as Rangers are concerned, but the Scottish Premiership title race may not be over just yet and the Scottish Cup also gets going.
Rohl has done well to stabilise things at Ibrox, but the German will be fully aware that the real work starts now as crunch games against Hearts and Celtic are ahead.
It would be easy to look ahead to next season already, but either way, Rangers need to have a 10/10 transfer window next month.
