Another Rangers appointment at advanced stage as Stig Inge Bjornebye update emerges
Stig Inge Bjornebye is not seen as an interim sporting director after his appointment at Rangers.
The ex-Norway international has arrived in an advisory and consultancy role at the Gers on a six-month deal.
Bjornebye will have input regarding signings in the winter transfer window, but he’s not seen as a direct replacement for Kevin Thelwell.
Andrew Cavenagh sacked Thelwell and Stewart towards the end of November, but the Glaswegian outfit’s chairman may already be ready to fill one of the vacancies in the boardroom.

Rangers have Patrick Stewart replacement on radar
The Gers are further along in their search for a new chief executive officer than a sporting director, according to Sky Sports News.
While Bjornebye takes a seat in the boardroom at Ibrox at least for the next few months, the news outlet reports on 17 December that Cavenagh is prepared to wait for the appointment of a permanent sporting director.
It’s been claimed that the Light Blues are at a much more advanced stage of replacing Patrick Stewart.
Rohl will hope Cavenagh backs him in the winter transfer window, and it remains to be seen what Bjornebye’s input will be.
The 56-year-old played for the likes of Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers before working as a sporting director at Rosenborg and, most recently, Danish club Aarhus.

Andrew Cavenagh to wait for sporting director who can be game-changer at Ibrox
Real Betis chief Manu Fajardo has been linked with a move to Ibrox, with the Gers expressing their interest in him.
The LaLiga outfit’s sporting director could potentially be the perfect person to oversee the Rangers squad overhaul needed after Thelwell’s underwhelming signings.
| Players | Transfer fee |
| Youssef Chermiti | £8m |
| Oliver Antman | £3.5m |
| Thelo Aasgaard | £3.5m |
| Bojan Miovski | £2.6m |
| Emmanuel Fernandez | £2.5m |
Fajardo has done an exceptional job at Betis and has shown he isn’t afraid to take risks by signing Antony, who has thrived in Andalusia after his struggles at Manchester United.
Bjornebye may be a temporary solution to aid Cavenagh going into January, and the Glaswegian outfit’s chairman may be waiting to see how the situation with Fajardo develops until the end of the season.
