Danny Rohl drops Mikey Moore injury update after Rangers win vs Hibernian: ‘I was worried’

Mikey Moore is starting to set alight the Scottish Premiership after a slow start to his loan spell at Rangers.

The 18-year-old joined the Light Blues on a season-long loan from Tottenham in the summer as the Premier League club looked for one of their brightest young talents to continue his development in Scotland.

It’s fair to say the Spurs loanee had a disappointing first few months at Ibrox, with Kris Boyd openly criticising some of Moore’s performances.

However, Moore was on fire once again against Hibernian on Monday as he starred in Rangers‘ 1-0 win over David Gray’s side at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.

Danny Rohl explains Mikey Moore substitution

Moore completed 69 minutes before being substituted off by Danny Rohl to be replaced by Thelo Aasgaard.

During his time on the pitch, stats by Sofascore show that the English forward completed 93 per cent of his passes, made one key pass, four shots at goal, with one being on target and got a match rating of 6.9.

Not long before he was taken off, Moore was on the end of a cynical foul by Hibernian’s Jamie McGrath.

Speaking after the game, as quoted by This is Ibrox, Rohl confirmed that Moore didn’t go off injured.

However, the teenager was taken off out of fear of him suffering an injury.

He was the free man for me today,” said Rohl.

He needed to be subbed out as we couldn’t afford another injury.

“I was worried about the young team and not having many leaders, but they coped well.

Mikey Moore’s recent injury issues and upcoming matches

Before his goalscoring comeback against Kilmarnock, Moore had missed three Scottish Premiership games and the Europa League defeat to Braga with an injury.

He’d been sidelined for those fixtures with a muscular injury, so Rohl was always going to ease him back into action and ensure that he didn’t suffer a relapse in his recovery.

However, if Moore’s performance was anything to go by, he’s back fit and firing now and ready to take on Hearts in what will be a huge game at Tynecastle on Sunday afternoon.

It’s a big few weeks for Rangers.

After they play the Scottish Premiership leaders, they take on Motherwell at Ibrox on 27 December after leapfrogging them into third in the table on Monday night.

They then welcome Premier Sports Cup champions St Mirren to Govan on 30 December before kicking off 2026 by playing Old Firm rivals Celtic at Parkhead on 3 January.

Moore’s recent form suggests he should be one of the first names on Rohl’s team sheet for these big fixtures.
