Scott Allan blasts Rangers star who had Ibrox moaning and groaning vs Hibernian: ‘That’s the story of his career’

Scott Allan struggled to be impressed by Rangers’ performance against Hibernian on Monday night.

Rangers won 1-0 against Hibs at Ibrox, moving themselves up to third in the Scottish Premiership table and only three points behind second-placed Celtic.

Emmanuel Fernandez scored after a brilliant ball by Dujon Sterling in the 35th minute, in what was the Englishman’s first appearance in the starting line-up since April.

However, while it was an important three points for Danny Rohl and his men, the Gers performance was once again tepid, and if Hibs performed better on the night, the outcome might have been different.

Youssef Chermiti once again off the boil

You have to feel a bit sorry for Youssef Chermiti.

After signing from Everton for £10million in the summer, Chermiti became the second-most expensive player in Rangers’ history.

The 21-year-old striker didn’t choose his price tag, and he was hardly doing a thing at Everton beforehand, yet there’s been an unfair amount of pressure put on him thanks to what Kevin Thelwell shelled out for him in the summer.

It’s hard to tell if that pressure is causing his tragic performances for Rangers, or if he really isn’t anywhere near cut out for this level, with a shot that went out for a throw-in against Hibernian on Monday night suggesting that either could be true.

Mikey Moore did some brilliant work to play in Chermiti just before half-time, but the ex-Evertonian slashed his shot wide and out for a throw-in, leading to loud moans and groans from the home support at Ibrox.

Ex-Celtic and Hibs midfielder Allan believes that shot summed up his Rangers career to date.

“He’s lashing at it, he lacks that conviction, a bit of composure,” said Allan on BBC Sportsound.

“Unfortunately for him, that’s been the story of his Rangers career so far.”

Billy Dodds added: “When they’ve not had many chances, they tend to slash at them sometimes. He’s rushed at it and hooked it.”

What next for Chermiti?

Pound for pound, Chermiti has gone down as one of the worst Rangers signings of all time – so far.

It’s still early days in his Ibrox career, but most people have seen enough from the Portuguese striker to suggest he won’t ever be a long-term option up front for the Light Blues.

He’s contracted to the Glasgow club for another three and a half years, but he’s already been tipped to leave Ibrox in the upcoming January transfer window.

“It is not happening for him at Rangers, I don’t know what is going to happen in the January window, do they loan him out?” said Tam McManus on PLZ Soccer on 4 December.

“I just think the Rangers fans have made their mind up on him, I think if you are a player at Rangers or Celtic, and the fans make their mind up, it is hard to come back from that.

As McManus says, a loan deal could make sense. But who takes him? What league does he go to? How will that loan benefit his Ibrox career?

It’s kicking the can down the road, ultimately.
