Rangers fixture at Ibrox rescheduled at late notice as official announcement made

Danny Rohl will have to slightly tinker with his plans as Rangers have had one of their upcoming fixtures rescheduled.

The Gers are still competing in three competitions as we approach the start of 2026, albeit their European hopes are all but over.

Rangers’ 2-1 loss to Ferencvaros last week means there is next to no chance of advancing to the knockout playoff round of the Europa League.

Rangers host Hibernian next up in the Scottish Premiership, knowing that a victory in that one will keep them just about in title contention.

And the Scottish Cup is also due to get up and running for Rohl’s men in the coming weeks, making for a packed schedule.

Rangers’ Scottish Cup tie vs Annan Athletic rescheduled

Rohl’s main aim this season is to win silverware at Rangers, with the Scottish Cup presenting the best chance to do just that.

Rangers were eliminated by Queen’s Park in last season’s competition in what is arguably the most embarrassing result in the club’s history.

The year before, the Gers were beaten by Celtic in the final. Rohl knows that anything less than going all the way and lifting the trophy at Hampden this term would be a disappointment.

First up is Annan Athletic in January, but it has now been announced that the fixture has been given a new date for television purposes.

Instead of being played on January 17th, it will now be on the 16th – a Friday – and shown live on Premier Sports at 7:45pm.

The news was announced by Annan via their official website on Monday.

The broadcasters will clearly be hoping for an upset at Ibrox, and on the basis of what we saw at the start of this year, nothing can be ruled out.

Rangers fans will need to make new plans

The game is almost exactly a month away, but plenty of fans will already have had various plans in place for this fixture.

Whether that is travelling from further afield or simply making different plans, those will now have to be changed.

Ibrox has been far from full for bigger games than this one this season, of course, but it will be nice to get the ground packed out for what will hopefully be a special cup run.

All Rohl’s eggs appear to be in one basket at this stage, so a full-strength side should be fielded in this fixture when it does eventually come around.
