Leanne Crichton frustrated with Rangers Women players despite thumping win, here’s why

Rangers Women oversaw a 3-0 victory over Partick Thistle on Sunday in what was a convincing display.

The Gers got off to a fast start, with Katie Wilkinson and Quinty Sabajo both finding the net within six minutes to put them 2-0 up.

However, it would take until the 79th minute for Rangers to get the third despite their fine start as Laura Berry rounded off the game in style.

Looking back on the match, Leanne Crichton was pleased with the overall result, but frustrated that it was not by a bigger margin.

Leanne Crichton: Rangers Women needed more cutting edge

Since Jo Potter’s departure to Crystal Palace, Crichton has overseen a solid start at Rangers.

The former Scotland international has guided the Glaswegians to the Sky Sports Cup semi-finals so far. However, their league position is less impressive.

As it stands, Rangers Women are third in the SWPL1, seven points off first-place Glasgow City.

While this is still catchable, goal difference could play a part if they are to win their second-ever top division title.

Therefore, Sunday presented a brilliant chance to achieve this, but after their opening two goals, the Gers dropped off.

This was something that did not impress Crichton, who expressed her frustration to RangersTV on 14 December.

She said: “I’m really pleased with the three points and three goals.

“I’m a little bit frustrated that we took our foot off the gas after getting the quickfire goals, and I would have liked to have seen us have a bit more cutting edge early on.

“The way that we used the ball, we almost thought it would be easy to go and get that third goal, which against Partick Thistle it never is because they’re a team that don’t crumble nor give in despite going behind when they did.

“But overall I’m really pleased. We’re at a stage of the season now where we feel we’re just getting going.

“The break is coming, and we have one more game before the year is out, but I would love us to be able to keep going because I can feel the momentum that we have now, and the performance levels are improving week on week.

“We have personnel back, and we’re building their minutes, which is something we’ve not had the luxury of doing all season. When I look at that and the amount of positives, I’m really pleased.”

Who is up next for Rangers Women?

Up next, Rangers Women travel to face Aberdeen in the final game before the winter break.

The match is set to take place on 21 December, with kick-off at 1pm.

Following this, the Women’s Scottish Cup will kick start their 2026 schedule, with the Gers to host Kimarnock on 11 January.

For those fans waiting for another Old Firm, the next time Rangers take on Celtic will likely be in the semi-finals of the Sky Sports Cup on 1 February.
