Kris Boyd fears Rangers ‘crisis’ if this one thing happens imminently at Ibrox

Kris Boyd fears Rangers and Danny Rohl could imminently be plunged straight back into “crisis mode”.

Rangers welcome Hibernian to Ibrox on Monday night aiming to close the gap on Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts to nine points with a game in hand to play.

Rangers were beaten 2-1 by Ferencvaros last time out, all but ending their slim hopes of progressing in the Europa League.

The Gers are unbeaten in the league under Rohl but have struggled for consistency, with Rangers being held 0-0 by Falkirk last time out at home in the competition.

And Boyd has not been entirely won over by Rohl so far, particularly certain comments made by the former Sheffield Wednesday boss.

Rangers loss vs Hibernian would plunge them into crisis

Rangers fans rejoiced in Celtic’s Premier Sports Cup final defeat to St Mirren on Sunday, with that a third loss in a week for new boss Wilfried Nancy.

However, the Gers are enduring an even worse campaign so far and simply need to win game after game if they are to have any shot at winning the title.

Defeat to Hibernian on Monday, then, would see those hopes extinguished for good and effectively end the league season before 2025 is even out.

Speaking on The Scottish Sun’s Go Ballistic show on Monday, Boyd said: “If Rangers are not on their game tonight, it’s another one where we could be speaking about Rangers in crisis mode as well.

You hear Danny Rohl say ‘Dundee United there were signs of improvement, Falkirk signs of improvement, in Europe there were things I liked’ – they didn’t win any of them.

I don’t know what it is, but something doesn’t sit right with me. I get it’s a squad that needs ripping up as the recruitment has been terrible, but I’m not convinced either.

There’s a lot of work to do at Ibrox. There’s a huge period of fixtures coming up for Danny Rohl.”

Boyd is certainly not wrong. Rohl is a likeable figure and he has to support of the fanbase, which is more than Russell Martin could say.

The fans want this to work and are happy to be patient, but results like the 0-0 bore at home to Falkirk simply will not cut it.

Danny Rohl’s buzz phrase needs to have more substance

Rohl has liked to talk about Rangers taking “steps forward” since arriving. Going unbeaten in the league, and looking a lot stronger defensively, is a good start.

However, that needs to equate to results before long. Rangers fans now need to see home matches against Hibernian end with three points in a relatively stress-free manner.

They need to see players turning it on, rather than being too cautious, and Rohl being decisive with his decision making.

The fixtures are about to come thick and fast, so building momentum will make the world of difference. That needs to start with maximum points under the Ibrox lights on Monday.
