Villarreal explore terms of deal to sign Rangers star who Kevin Thelwell signed

Villarreal have identified Rangers forward Djeidi Gassama as a target ahead of the winter transfer window.

The LaLiga outfit are searching for a way to sign the former Sheffield Wednesday star from the Gers in January.

Gassama has arguably been one of the better Kevin Thelwell deals from the summer, and it would certainly be surprising to see him leave so soon.

Rohl is pursuing a renewed title charge at Ibrox, with the German manager unbeaten in the William Hill Premiership, and the French forward has been a key player for him.

Rangers winger Djeidi Gassama is who Villarreal want

Villarreal feel Gassama fits the profile of player they want at Estadio de la Ceramica, according to Rudy Galetti.

The journalist revealed on X on 11 December that the Spanish club are exploring terms of a potential deal to sign the 22-year-old from Ibrox.

With Sheffield Wednesday going through a bit of a crisis under Dejphon Chansiri, the Light Blues took advantage of the situation and bought the French youngster for around £2.2million.

The winger has scored six goals and provided two assists in 28 appearances for the Glaswegian outfit after a strong start to life in G51, but his recent form has been a bit patchy.

Gassama could potentially be part of a better future at Ibrox, but it seems like Villarreal are willing to scupper the Gers’ plans for their future.

If the hierarchy in Govan do decide to part ways with the forward, it will arguably take a hefty sum to convince them.

Danny Rohl already has Djeidi Gassama replacement in the wing at Ibrox

Rohl will certainly be taking charge of the winter transfer window at Ibrox after Thelwell and Patrick Stewart’s sackings.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises should look to back the German manager at Rangers after signs of improvement since Russell Martin’s departure.

While it wouldn’t be wise to sell Gassama midway through the season while chasing the league title, Findlay Curtis could potentially be the ready-made replacement for him.

The 19-year-old has shown a lot of potential at the Light Blues, and it’s time for Rohl to start trusting him more, with the former Sheffield Wednesday’s future in G51 up in the air.
