49ers ‘will not be shy’ as exciting Rangers transfer prediction made for January
Derek Ferguson expects 49ers Enterprises to get fully behind Danny Rohl by recruiting new players in the January transfer window.
Rangers were very busy in the summer window, but the vast majority of players signed have failed to perform at Ibrox.
Youssef Chermiti in particular has struggled for Rangers since joining from Everton in a deal potentially rising to £10million.
Rangers continue to be linked with new players ahead of the January window, with Joe Aribo reportedly being lined up for an Ibrox return.
And player-turned-pundit Ferguson believes as many as four new signings will be required in January if Rangers are to have any hope of mounting an outside title challenge.
Danny Rohl in need of financial backing in January
Rangers beat Kilmarnock 3-0 last weekend to get back on track after successive draws in the Scottish Premiership.
Leaders Hearts are nine points better off that the Gers, having played one game more, while Celtic are six points ahead.
Rohl is unbeaten in the league since taking charge, but it is clear this current squad simply is not good enough to go on a consistent run of winning games.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News about the situation at Ibrox ahead of the transfer window opening in a few weeks’ time, Ferguson said: “Rangers definitely need more new players.
“Rohl’s had a good look at the squad, and I think this is partly why Kevin Thelwell has left, because he would have given the manager some samples of the type of player he’s bringing to the club.
“Rohl wouldn’t have been having that – ‘not good enough’. Rohl will know what players he wants to bring to the club to improve things, and I think he will get a bit of money.
“The 49ers will not be shy in that respect. Rangers need players because this group are not good enough to challenge for the title as it is. Rohl needs at least three or four if Rangers are to be back challenging.”
Rangers exits needed to free up squad places and funds
While Rangers have owners with deep pockets, it is not as simple as just going out and spending multiple millions on new players.
The Gers will also need to offload, which is easier said than done.
“Rohl needs players, but many of those currently at Ibrox need to understand they’re not good enough,” Ferguson added.
“They need to be told that they need to get out, even on loan, so that they can play football elsewhere and free up money for Rangers.”

| Rabbi Matondo | 0 | 0 |
| Kieran Dowell | 2 | 1 |
| Lyall Cameron | 5 | 2 |
| Emmanuel Fernandez | 6 | 5 |
Kieran Dowell is one of those linked with a Rangers exit, but there are countless others who could be shipped out.
Rabbi Matondo is another who is picking up a wage for nothing, while Lyall Cameron has started just two games since his summer move and would benefit from more minutes.
Either way, a big month awaits for Rangers in terms of reshaping this underperforming squad.
