Michael Stewart slams Mikey Moore ‘madness’ at Rangers after what happened with Russell Martin

Michael Stewart still can’t believe what was expected of Mikey Moore at the start of the season under Russell Martin.

Moore started the campaign terribly for Rangers under Russell Martin, although he has found a new lease of life playing centrally for Danny Rohl.

There are many reasons why Martin failed at Rangers, most notably his inability to adapt his style of play between matches tactically.

However, his over-reliance on Moore heaped pressure on the Tottenham loanee, who began to face criticism for his subpar performances.

After Moore scored against Kilmarnock on Saturday, Stewart couldn’t believe the demands that Martin placed on him despite only being 18 years old.

Moore is tipped to be a generational talent, although that was not seen by the Light Blues faithful during the first few months of the season.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Social Club podcast on 8 December, Stewart made his thoughts about Moore clear.

He said: “Let’s be honest, Rangers were a shambles at the start of the campaign. To ask Mikey Moore to be the go-to guy is madness.

“Rohl is definitely an upgrade, and he seems like a guy that the players will warm to. He clearly knows what he’s doing, and that could be huge for Moore.”

The Tottenham loanee is gradually improving, and his first goal for the Bears came in Rangers’ 3-0 win over Dundee on 9 November.

An unfortunate injury in that match saw him return to action against Kilmarnock on Saturday, and he did so with real confidence at Rugby Park.

It seems clear that Rohl has found Moore’s value to the squad, and the 18-year-old is already repaying his manager’s faith in him.

Moore looked dreadful out wide, and Martin’s stubbornness greatly impacted the young winger’s form.

Martin became Rangers’ worst manager of all time after lasting just 123 days in charge of the Glaswegian outfit.

Not only does he have the worst win percentage in charge of Rangers, but he broke another record for all the wrong reasons.

With just one win from seven league matches, Martin oversaw the Bears’ worst start to a Scottish Premiership season in 57 years.

Rohl has completely outdone him so far, and it’s clear that he has the backing of the players and fans.

Moore can turn out to be a key player for the Bears this season, and every good performance he has just highlights Martin’s ineptitude while he was at the helm.
