Keith Jackson in disbelief at ‘astonishingly bad’ Rangers incident, figure needs to ‘get a grip’

Keith Jackson has launched a scathing attack on the use of VAR after Mikey Moore had a goal disallowed in Rangers’ 3-0 win over Kilmarnock.

Bojan Miovski finally showed his ability on Saturday, scoring a brace before Moore put some gloss on the scoreline with a composed strike in the 81st minute.

The result leaves Rangers fourth in the Scottish Premiership table, and Danny Rohl has now overseen five wins from his first seven league matches.

However, Moore was unfortunate to have a goal disallowed soon after his first, and Daily Record journalist Jackson has not held back on his assessment of Willie Collum‘s and his use of VAR since his appointment as the head of refereeing operations at the Scottish FA in May 2024

Keith Jackson furious at decision to disallow Mikey Moore goal

With the score already 3-0, Moore raced on to a Danilo pass and coolly chipped the ball over goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi.

However, referee Kevin Clancy disallowed the goal after an on-field review, as Emmanuel Fernandez was penalised for a foul on David Watson.

Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live on 7 December, Jackson was furious with the decision to disallow the 18-year-old’s effort.

He said: “The Moore goal, I don’t know what they were doing chalking that off.

“Watson is not getting back to play any part in stopping that move, and it was a perfectly good move, but VAR decides to get involved when it shouldn’t.

“It’s astonishingly bad stuff, and Willie Collum needs to get a grip on it.”

Kilmarnock will feel aggrieved by separate refereeing decisions during the match as Mohamed Diomande got away with a potential infringement in his own box, and Jack Butland escaped any punishment for a reckless challenge on Bruce Anderson.

Rangers have been involved in plenty of controversy this season, and it feels frustrating to have to highlight the refereeing inconsistencies instead of focusing on the football that was played.

Moore is gradually improving under Rohl, and his first goal for the Bears came in Rangers’ 3-0 win over Dundee on 9 November.

Mikey Moore stamping his authority on the Rangers team

Technically brilliant on the ball, Moore has thrived playing just in behind the striker instead of being left isolated out wide.

The Tottenham loanee certainly struggled to make his mark under Russell Martin and was subjected to extensive criticism as a result.

After picking up a frustrating injury during the Dundee win, he returned to action as a substitute at Rugby Park and put the game beyond doubt with relative ease.

Moore’s future is incredibly bright, and he is on course to becoming one of Rangers’ most important players under Rohl.
